Kain's mental space

After a while, the changes Kain felt in his star halted.

But not because it was finished. Likely, because multiple eggs were absorbed the final environment of his first star will conform to what best suits his first contract.

Unfortunately, he has no idea what the first contract could be and the environment is too muddled for him to even sense what direction he should go in to find a suitable contract.

Looking around at the now empty space and sensing if there were any more pulls into the distance, Kain confirmed that there was nothing left for him here.

'I guess I should leave now, huh?' Kain thought, disappointed that there was nothing else here that could give him an answer as to what his affinity is.

'How do I leave though? The principal did not cover that'

Suddenly Kain felt a much stronger pull, although not in any particular direction. Relaxing, he closed his eyes and chose to let the feeling consume him.

"I think that one's waking up!" Shouted an unfamiliar voice.

Opening his eyes Kain was able to immediately spot the brown curly hair belonging to Bridge as he used his massive body to barrel his way towards him.

"Whoa! Calm down! You're going to crush me to death!" Kain yelled in fear.

However, after he wrapped his massive arms around him, Kain could feel him shivering.

"Please tell me that you have an affinity, Kain. Please!"

Feeling his shoulder now soaked with tears, Kain patted Bridge on the back. "I did awaken Bridge, don't worry" he whispered. 'Although I don't know what it is'

Leaning back, with his hands still on his shoulders Bridge's green teary eyes searched Kain's calm brown ones to see if he was telling the truth. Whatever he saw made him collapse in relief. Before breaking out into a wide grin. "That means our orphanage has two individuals with an affinity!"

Instantly Kain forgot about his own issues regarding his affinity. "You too?!"

Bridge puffed out his chest, "I received a B-rating"

Before Kain could celebrate further with his brother, they were interrupted.

"You've awakened an affinity, Kain?" Asked Mr. Evergreen as he approached from behind Bridge.

"Yes sir"

Mr. Evergreen instantly looked ecstatic. Kain was his star pupil, and although he was certain that he could enter a top school by the academic exam alone, he knew first-hand how many doors open once one has an affinity. Even if it is only a D-ranked one.

"Let's go get you tested" He said, as he led him towards the testing machine, Bridge following closely behind.

"Please place your hands here and channel your spiritual power into the machine" Directed another teacher Kain was unfamiliar with.

As Kain reached forward as directed he was incredibly nervous. He had no idea what his affinity was, so he had no benchmark for what his rating might be.

Also, he could feel over 100 pairs of eyes coming from teachers and students baring into the back of his head.

Channelling his meagre amount of spiritual power into the machine, Kain waited for his results.
