CHAPTER TWENTY SIX
Taylor Night
It's Ferguson who finds me, covered in blood and shaking, a glassy look in my eyes. Isabel has been by my side throughout, trying to comfort me, too weak to move to get help.
And Raeina?
Raeina's blood won't stop spilling.
I don't know what happens once Ferguson calls for help and forces me to let go of Raeina's cold body. Everything is a blur. Faces and people moving past me. Somebody picking me up.
I don't remember any of it.
All I remember is the blood, Raeina's blood, all over my hands and clothes.
The next thing I know is waking up in the infirmary, Isabel on the bed next to mine, Ferguson sitting on a chair, by the door, his posture tense.
When my eyes flutter open, he sits up.
I stare at him for a few seconds before I mumble, "Raeina?"
His jaw tightens and he gets up, approaching me, "You good?"
"Raeina? Did she - I couldn't save - I tried -"
