Chapter Two

I pull into the apartment parking lot. I park in what seems like the only parking spot in the entire lot. I get out with my strawberry shake and phone and shut the door with my foot. I slide my phone inside my jeans pocket and pull out the keys from that pocket and lock the car. I stuff the keys back inside the pocket and walk towards the apartment entrance. I slide my key through the keyhole and turn it. I hear a click! Sound and I pull my key out and open the door.

I wave at the doorman, Jackson Taylor. Then I quickly put my hand down and walk faster towards the elevator. I forgot I can't make contact with him anymore. It was bad enough when we were together, but after the breakup? No way.

I get into the elevator and push the '6' button. Five minutes pass with no one getting on. It's always nice when this happens. I get out on the sixth floor and walk down the hall to my room. I get out my key again and unlock the door. I walk in and set my shake on the kitchen counter. I toss my keys next to it and go sit on the couch.

I'm about to start having a meltdown, but stop myself. Is Amy still here? It's a Saturday… Maybe she's out with her friends…

I walk over to her bedroom door and knock. If she's here, I'll act like everything is fine. If not, I will cry and cry until I'm empty.

I hear a bit of rustling around and assume that she's home. Amy opens the door and looks a little surprised. "Y-You're back!" she says quietly.

"Er, Yeah…?" I say, a little confused.

"S-Sorry, I just thought you'd be with… Your friends."

I frown. I don't have any. I just tell Amy I do so that she doesn't feel bad for me.

"N-No, they're… Busy." My reply is slow and hesitant.

"On your birthday?" Amy says in both a sad and disapproving way.

"Yeah…"

Amy shakes her head. "Maybe… Never mind."

"What?" I ask.

"Maybe… They're not the best of friends if they can't find time to hang out with you on your birthday… It's silly, though."

"No… You're… You're probably right." I smile. Amy's rather adorable when she's more talkative than usual.

I lean over and look inside her bedroom. She looks a little concerned.

"Mind if I… Come in?"
