"Are you having some sort of mental breakdown?" I asked, "There's no way that we're leaving you behind to fight that madwoman on your own!"
But he had already stopped and turned around, and was building a latticework of shields around himself. I tried to stop as well, but Crashcourse grabbed my hand once again and tugged me into following her.
"Don't be an idiot, Bastion!" I yelled.
He didn't respond. He just focused on building up his shields, limping away in the opposite direction to the rest of us.
With a whistle and a resounding thud of displaced air, a normal explosion ripped through my darkness shields and ploughed into Bastion's array of shields. The flames and smoke pressed into the barricade Bastion had made and surged up the side. They shuddered, but held, rebuffing the attack.
That was when I heard it for the first time. It sounded like… an engine. The engine of a vehicle.
