The Witch Bone

Cheng Yan, the sole breadwinner of his family, one night finds some old bone under an old tree. The origin of those bones results in his death. But this transports him back to thousands of years ago where witches not only existed but demons and spirit beasts roamed the skies and ruled the seas. Trapped in a body of the heir of the chieftain, Cheng Yan has to walk through the labyrinth of political unrest as an awakened god, in a mortal's body, to save the kingdom from his unscrupulous rivals, and save himself from jaw-dropping beautiful cousins. And the only weapon he had on his reincarnation was a string of bones. What will he do with those bones? Feed it to dogs? Turn them into bone soup? Wear around his neck as a fashion statement? Read to find out more! Note: Ahem, Froggo here, my summer vacation started and I thought "hey, why not" and started writing. My first ever prose writing ( my soul is a poet though). So, please check out and leave comments if you like it and if you hate it, I won't mind having some of your power stones thrown at me. (not kidding) ahahahahah And also do not judge my novel yet based on the synopsis. It's an "East Meets West" fantasy fan-fiction. I am going all out! Will be busy for a month. Chapter release rate will be affected. Leave a review as well. XIeXie!

I am your key

Everything was happening too fast for him. And somehow he had a bad premonition about this whole affair.

He thought he was just an ordinary History nerd living a common life. But clearly, he was not meant for a simpler life. He knew from human history that royalty was not really about pomp and power but actually entailed many responsibilities and headaches that were commonly overshadowed by the splendour of the name "royalty" itself. He would have been fine with the identity of a normal "Young Lord Bai Hua" of the Soaring Kingdom. But knowing that he was more than just a Young Lord, he was getting cold feet.

It was not that he did not believe in Imsong. How could he not, when he had stared at truth itself. Face to face. When he could feel the cold Witch Bone on his wrist. When his soul was reacting so much to her. Seems like he could not escape this time.

"So, what now? I don't know what I am supposed to do. I don't even know why I am here. What is my purpose? Why did I reawaken?"

"You had a habit of shirking your own responsibilities. That is the real reason why you drank the potion and left this world. Your mortal son who was the first Lord of the kingdom of Soaring Dragon had to shoulder everything to keep the kingdom stable. You won't remember and legends are based on half-truths. He was your mortal son, a son whom you shaped from your blood with a shred of your own soul. That was why he was your legitimate heir. That was how all the royal heirs in this kingdom had the potential to be your vessels. They have your blood running in them and a shred of your soul was passed down from one heir to another. That is why you retained Bai Hua's memories. Because his body had a shred of your soul as the heir of Soaring Dragon."

He still looked puzzled but there was a look of determination in his eyes. He wanted to grasp the depth of his own predicament.

"I was once a mortal. You let me follow you everywhere you went. We fought battles together and went on adventures together. Then I achieved immortality. By then people had started looking up to you as a god. Then you began to feel the pressure, got cold feet and dumped your worshippers on your mortal son. I had no choice but to follow your decision. Then you left this world. Leaving me to wander all these thousands of years while waiting for you. Because only my soul was the key to your awakening. No one can forcefully awaken you without me. I am your key."

Imsong smiled bitterly and continued, "I have been waiting for this day ever since you left."

Then she suddenly pulled his left ear and said angrily, "How dare you to leave me here for thousands of years? Just because I am an immortal doesn't mean that my patience is limitless. You selfish prig! You have the nerve to appear only now when the Witch Bone brought you here!"

Imsong was incensed!

"Aaahh...aaahh.... aaaahhhhhh!!!!"

Bai Hua had no choice but to helplessly get his ear assaulted. He was sure he was exactly the kind of person she was describing. He can feel it even though he had no memories of his past life.

If anyone had seen this scene it would look like an older sister was punishing her younger brother for being mischievous.

"But wait, Head Shaman, I mean sister Imsong, why are you punishing me when I don't even recall my past life? How do I get my memories back?" he cried ruefully.

She gave one final pull for the last time and let it go. His ear was throbbing with pain.

She huffed and said rigidly, "Not telling. Hmmph."

Coming to the close of the first arc.
