Chapter 9 Meeting Survivors

Through the radio we hear a man say, "Hey dumbasses. Yeah, you guys in the tank. You comfy in there?"

Rick walks over to the radio and says, "Hello? Can you help us get out of here?"

The man on the other end responds, "Not directly but I can guide you to me. The walkers are distracted by the horses, if you jump off the front of the tank you can take out the stragglers on the way. There is an alley up the street, maybe 150 feet from where you are, I'll be there waiting for you".

Rick and John hearing the man's plan decided to trust him. They get ready once again before John opens the hatch cleaving a walker's face killing it, seeing the top of the tank has no more walkers, John has Rick throw him the bag of guns, before he climbs out of the tank as well.

Now out of the tank, they start to make a run for the alley up the street. John jumps down first, landing on a walker with the shovel burying itself in the walker's head, John pulls his pistol and starts to shoot some of the closer walkers, Rick following behind John, does the same.

Although Rick is having a hard time hitting the head of the walkers while running, John is making it look easy, any walker he aims at, receives a bullet to the head. John uses another full magazine before reloading, Rick doing the same although he is fumbling trying to get the clip inside while running.

They arrive at the alley that Glen had talked about and see an Asian man standing there, Rick pointed his gun at his head, but Glen quickly says, "Don't Shoot".

Glen runs towards a yellow ladder; he starts to climb up and Rick follows after him. John seeing that the walkers are almost to him and Rick in the way still, decides to jump up and grabs onto the outer cage of the ladder, pulling himself up, he starts to climb the outside making it up to the platform before the other two.

After the other two reach the platform, they are breathing heavily, while John is just looking at them huffing and puffing, he thinks to himself, 'Are these guys going to pass out? You'd think they had just run a marathon'.

Catching their breath, the Asian man says, "Nice move there, guys, you come riding in to clean up the town."

Rick replies, "That wasn't my intention"

The man says, "You're still dumbasses". They then all introduce themselves to each other, finding out the Asian man's name is Glen. They look down after hearing some clanging and see a walker trying to climb up the ladder, seeing this they look at the ladder leading to the roof.

Glen says, "At least it would be the fall that kills us. I'm a glass half full kind of guy". Then he starts to climb up with Rick and John following behind.

Reaching the roof, they cross over to another building, running over to a hatch, Glen opens it, before Glen could go down, John asks, "Why did you help us?"

Glen says, "I did it thinking that if I'm ever that far up shits creak, somebody might do the same for me", he looks at Rick then says, "I guess I'm an even bigger dumbass than you."

Then he starts to slide down the ladder, Rick and John sliding down behind him. Reaching the bottom of this ladder, they run through a messy office building to the exit, before coming to a fire escape that leads to an alley blocked by a bus.

John seeing that there are four walkers in the alley, runs over to the closest one. John swings his shovel and cleaves the top part of the walker's head off, exposing its rotten brains. John continued forward not losing momentum at all. He dashes over to the next walker and using the blunt side of his shovel he smashes the walkers head to mush. This caused blood to splatter all over his shirt, staining it.

John got close to the next walker and swung his shovel at the walker's neck. This attack caused the walkers head to come flying off. It was a somewhat gruesome seen. John ran over to the last walker and kicked it in the chest. This knocked the walker to the ground, John then knelt on the walker's chest and plunged the head of the shovel into its head.

Rick and Glen seeing this happen from above, on the catwalk, say at the same, something along the lines of, "I don't want to get on his bad side".

With the walkers taken care of Rick and Glen walk down the stairs and reach the ground, Glen walks up to the door and knocks on it a couple times before it open and they all enter inside swiftly. A blonde grabs Rick by the shirt and points her pistol at him, Morales and Jacqui tell her to, "Back off", while T-dog watches quietly.

Andrea says, "We're dead because of this stupid asshole", seeming to completely forget about John, who was also looking at this unfold, John laughed to himself. John thought, 'Rick always gets the short end of the stick.'

The blonde, named Andrea backs off after the Hispanic man get in her face, telling her to, "back off" once again.

Andrea then says, "We're dead, all of us, because of you".

Rick says, "I don't understand?", the Hispanic man drags Rick to the store front and shows him the front doors that have tons of walkers banging on them, the doors were made out of sturdy glass, but they would definitely break from the pressure soon. We all look, as small cracks begin to form on the first set of glass doors.

They back away from the doors and the group of survivors asks, "Why were you guys out there?"

Rick says, "We were trying to flag the helicopter that flew over us."

They all look at Rick skeptically, but Rick says, "I know what I saw."

Morales says to T-dog, "Try that CV. Can you contact the others?"

T-dog says, "No, there is no connection".

Rick then says, "Others? The refugee centers?"

Jacqui replies sarcastically, "Yeah, the refugee center. They got biscuits waiting in the oven for us".

Then suddenly they hear a gunshot from up above, Andrea says, "Oh no Dixon.", the group then goes running up the stairs. John hangs back and decides to look for some clothes that fit him, he finds some shirts and pants changing into a pair of gray jeans and a black shirt and some comfortable, tan boots.

He grabs several more outfits and shoes that fit him, before sending them to Eden. After putting his vest back on, he put his shot gun back on his shoulder using the sling, also attaching his holster back onto his waist before starting to run towards the stairs. He leaves the bag of guns on a counter full of jewelry, on his way, before running up the stairs, quickly catching up to the rest of the group.
