The black car was most definitely exceeding the speed limit as it drove the lonely road to Oak Creek. Inside sat a pale boy. He focused mostly on the road but every three minutes he looked over his shoulder at the sleeping girl on the backseat.
A part of Void wasn't happy, of course, he needed her close. And he didn't like that. His plans never depended on anyone else. Void knew he could make another plan without her but something stopped him every time he tried. And it scared him. He could manipulate Keylee, he could lie to her, threaten her, use her in very valuable ways but he couldn't get rid of her. He needed her. And that had to stop. Yet some part of him didn't wanna loose it again.
Void was deep in his thoughts when suddenly a deer jumped over the road. His eyes widened and he hit the breaks. The impact made him slightly fly forward. He stared through the window before raising his eyebrows. 'That would have been way funnier with someone besides me.
He quickly turned around to check on Keylee but she was no where to be found.
If any normal person would notice a former sleeping girl missing they would probably freak out. Void's reaction would be best described as... well... extremely odd. He didn't panic, he didn't look surprised, he didn't ran out to find her. No. He did none of that. He only smirked slightly. Knowing he was correct about everything he had thought about Keylee.
Void stepped out of the car and locked it. After that he calmly walked in the direction of the tunnels in Oak Creek. He was a thousand years old spirit but only twice he had met someone like Keylee. The first time was when he was still very young, it was when he knew little to nothing about her. the second time was when he accidentally ended up in Eichen house. And she hadn't been his ally, she had died, killed herself after the treatment of Eichen house.
Void knew a lot. But he knew, in his eyes, very little of Keylee, her history and her powers. It was only natural for him to feel the desire to know more. He was a fox, curious about everything.
It didn't take long before he found her. Keylee slid one finger across the wall and stared in the distance. Her eyes were glowing an emerald green.
Void silently walked closer. He carefully observed the girl who seemed to be unaware of his presence.
'What do you see?' Void had lowered his voice and spoke soft and calm so he wouldn't startle her and get her out of the trance.
The green glow that illuminated Keylee's eyes flickered for a split second. She frowned slightly and her lower lip quivered a little.
'They're dead. They're all dead. Why are they looking at me like that?'
'Hmmmm, don't be scared Kitten. It is gonna be okay, they can't harm you.'
'V-void?' Keylee turned around.
'Yes.' Void grabbed her shoulder and suddenly he was sucked in her world. He slowly looked around. The people were Japanese but they were green. Different shades of green but still green. Like he had put on green glasses.
Keylee was right, the people were staring at her. It was like Void didn't even exist. Some people had deep wounds, others looked like nothing had happened. Most of them looked afraid or in pain.
A woman suddenly walked forward. 'You are the next one, yes? Please, help us.'
'I- I don't know- I can't I-'
The woman took Keylee's hand and she winced. More people started to walk closer now. Keylee's breath quickened and she took a step back.
Void observed it all. He had seen her eyes glow green before but he guessed she had never seen dead people of the past like this before. Probably it was only taking other's pain.
Keylee stared at the dead people in horror. So. Many. Dead. Why were there so many dead people? She was scared. At the moment the woman touched her she felt her pain. The woman was shot at her back. Keylee felt it. She couldn't control it. She just felt all their pain, she knew she was taking it from them but how could dead people feel pain? This couldn't be right, right? They were all talking but at the same time, it was impossible to understand. It was like lunch break at school. Overwhelming.
Keylee clasped her arms around herself. Everything hurt. She felt like going crazy, no longer knowing what emotion was hers and what emotion was from one of the dead people. It felt like she was shot on multiple places. The dead people freaked her out.
She sunk to her knees and closed her eyes, hoping it would just... go away somehow. Keylee didn't open her eyes to see but she could feel someone sliding his arms around her from behind and pulling her closer. She winched and mentally prepared for more pain if that was possible but nothing painful happened.
Void pulled her against his chest and placed a hand over hers, he slowly started to take the pain she felt. There was as much chaos as pain and he loved it. It felt like he hadn't drank anything for days and now finally got a glass of water. He noticed Keylee stiffen under his touch and he moved closer to her ear.
'Shhh, it's okay Kitten, give me your pain, let me help you.' He murmured softly.
The veins at his hand turned black as he took her pain. Keylee didn't notice for she still held her eyes tightly closed. She knew it was Void who held her but that didn't make things much better. Although, the pain was fading away and the voices quieted down at the moment he held her.
When Keylee heard nothing but her and Void's breath she slowly started to relax her body a bit. Her breath became calmer and she didn't desperately clasp her arms around her anymore. She felt weak, shaking and confused. Keylee leaned her head back against Void's chest who seemed to be her only kind of anchor. She still held her eyes closed, scared that this, whatever it was, would end when she'd open them.
Void looked down at the girl in his arms. Now that she wasn't in pain anymore she looked almost peaceful. He carefully untangled her from his arms and slowly pulled her up at her shoulders.
They just stood there for a while, in silence, Void staring at Keylee and Keylee staring at anything but Void. Keylee thought about it, why would her powers clam down with Void? Her theory so far was that she felt pain and that he took it, he didn't held any pain with him cause he used it to survive.
Eventually she finally met his gaze. His eyes looked dark as always. What had she expected? That he suddenly looked at her with a smile, telling her it was gonna be alright? No, he was still a fox, a dark fox. Keylee had to remind herself that.
Void noticed the change of thoughts and let go of her. 'Come on Kitten, lets head back.'
Keylee looked behind her, the tunnels seemed endless. Perhaps she could get away, but was that still something she wanted? Void had helped her, twice now, perhaps he could help her more. Explain her what she was. After all, he lived for god knows how many years already.
Void looked over his shoulder and stopped when he saw Keylee still standing there. 'You're coming?'
Keylee looked behind her once more. She could still try to run. But she didn't really want that. She nodded and ran a bit towards void to catch up with him.
'Do you- do you know what's going on with me?'
'I do.'
Keylee waited about a minute but it didn't look like Void was gonna explain anything else.
'Oh. Are you gonna explain me then?'
Void looked over his shoulder and studied her for a while before he turned back to staring forward. 'Maybe.'
'Void, I need to know what I am, if you know- I know you know so- so please, please tell! Tell me what's wrong with me?'
Void stopped so suddenly that Keylee walked into him. He turned around and grabbed her shoulders. 'Keylee, listen to me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you, you are special alright? You are an amazing girl with an amazing gift, you just need to learn to control it.'
'What?' Keylee asked shocked. She never expected that. Why would he say something like that?
Void suddenly looked away like only now he realized what he had said. 'I mean- it's nothing. Forget it. Just- just follow me to the car.'
Keylee opened her mouth to question him further but Void had already turned around so she quickly followed. Why had he said that? Had he just seriously told her she was amazing? Keylee felt her cheeks heat up and quickly shook her head a few times. "F*ck, no Keylee, no! Don't feel like that! He's the bad guy, a very, very attractive bad guy. With a nice side, he just doesn't express it much. there must still be good in him, and he's kinda cute sometimes.... NO NO NO! He's a bad person, a very bad person, he killed Allison. Don't defend him!"
'Hey, you're alright back there Kitten?'
Keylee looked up from her thoughts and noticed she was trailing behind so she ran a bit to catch up with Void. 'Yeah, totally fine.' She lied.
Void raised his eyebrows. 'You are a terrible liar.'
'What! I'm not, I mean, not lying. I'm not lying.'
'Sure you're not.'
Keylee quickly looked away when she felt her face heat up again. She focused on the grey walls instead of Void, not that those were very interesting though, so she slowly looked back at Void. He was staring forward to where they were walking. He looked physically really tired but there was something about him that made her believe he wasn't. He was paler than Stiles and his hair was messier but all those things only made him look hot in Keylee's opinion and... STOP THINKING LIKE THIS! The thought-yelled at herself.
Since when did she start to think like this? Especially about a guy she was desperate to get away from not more than two days ago. Keylee sighted. 'You know Void, you made things really chaotic.'
Void smirked. 'That's kinda my job Kitten.'
'Right. Remind me again why you always seem to call me that?'
Void snickered. 'When the time comes, Kitten... when the time comes...'
'Oh.' Keylee didn't really know what else to say, seeing that questioning probably wouldn't help much. She just continued to walk while overthinking the past few days. Most of the time she was unconscious. Train station, finding out Stiles isn't Stiles but Void, running, kidnapped, running again, unconscious, kidnapped again, weird talk, Void taking her pain, running again, getting kidnapped again, sleeping, going to the hospital, unconscious again-
Keylee suddenly stopped walking when she though about it. Her very own mother injected her with, with, with some sort of calming sleeping stuff.
Void tuned around and his almost already smirk fell down as he saw Keylee's sad expression. She didn't really know how she felt. At one side she understood why her mother did it, she could appreciate it as she could see it as some sort of caring gesture but still! How could her very own mother do that to her? She explained she had to go right? That it would have been safer? And was it really necessary? Keylee somehow felt betrayed. Which was ridiculous! Her mother tried to help her.
'What are you thinking of?'
'My mother.' Keylee replied honestly.
Void walked back to her and sat down against the wall. He petted the ground besides him as a sigh she should sit down as well. Keylee hesitated for a second but gave in and sat down besides him.
'What are we doing?'
'Just wait.'
'Void?'
'Shush.' Void looked at Keylee and eventually reached out with his hand. A bit hesitant he gently placed two fingers against her jaw and turned her head to the left. Keylee tensed at first at the contact but allowed him to turn her head. Her eyes widened.
'Wow. Just, wow.'
The sun was at the height of the ceiling, if you could see it like that, anyway, it was like all those pictures she saw on the internet. Pictures of where the sun would be so low it just passed a corner or something and the entire hall would be illuminated in a ray of golden light. Keylee missed the words to describe it. It was breathtaking.
Void moved his hand to her shoulder and shifted a bit closer so he was with his face besides hers. He gazed at the sunlight and didn't look away.
'Now, take a deep breath Kitten. You feel calm? I need you to close your eyes and imagine the sun you're seeing now. Picture the light green but stay relaxed. Think of happy memories and focus on how you breathe. Then open your eyes again, and tell me what you see....'
