The rain has died down a bit and I've headed west towards the safe haven. I don't know what I'm gonna do over by the safe haven, but maybe I can sneak in. I know the layouts of all the safe havens, that was something all soldiers had to memorize when they were in training. The safe havens are all two miles in diameter, and two miles long.
The road is surprisingly in good shape, there was a battle that happened here that was tragic for the humans. We lost a lot of good men, about 300, most of them had families waiting for them to come home. It was hard to tell their families they had died on the battlefield, the look on their faces, the tears streaming down their cheeks. The anger, most of them were angry at the Imperial army for going to battle, to make it worse, we lost land.
The humans used to have most of the land, that was until one of the elite vampires took control and ruled them to their first victory. Since then, we humans have been having a hard time dealing with the vampires. A year before I got exiled, my group was on a scouting mission to locate the elite vampire, we did find him but were told not to engage. One of the Privates disobeyed orders and charged the vampire alone, he lasted a solid ten seconds.
The vampire's face was stuck in my mind for a while. His white hair, pale eyes, pale skin, it was all that was on my mind at the time. The way he picked the Private up by the neck with his one arm, he sucked him dry of his blood. The Private was almost as pale as the vampire, his lifeless eyes stared back at me. They were almost asking for help, to bring him back, give him a second chance. No, he was dumb enough to disobey orders, that's his own fault.
A yell takes me away from my thoughts. "Get back and stay in formation!" The voice yelled. I start running towards the voice to find a group of five against six vampires. I sigh and unsheathe my blade, "Yamata, give me power," I say. The sword obeys and I feel the familiar wave of heat hit me. I run up to the vampires and let the fire take most of them out. Three are dead and one is on the ground, trying to put the flames out.
The smell of burning flesh must be new to the group of five because I see one gagging and another puking. The remaining the vampires hesitate for a second. That second was one too many, I'm already swinging at one. He blocks my first strike, I counter with a kick to the groin and turn my attention to the other vampire. He swings at me which I sidestep out of the way and return with an attack of my own.
My blade slices the vampire across the stomach, he stumbles back and I stab him in the chest. I turn my attention to the other vampire and stab him in the throat. "Who the hell is he?" I hear one of them say. I turn my attention to them, the only one I noticed was a girl with silver hair, pale skin with blue eyes. I can tell she's the leader of the group by watching her walk up to me. "Who are you? How do you have a cursed weapon?"
I answer, "My name is Henry Zariath, I used to be in the Imperial Army.
I was exiled for disobeying orders." I say.
"Wait, you're the Henry Zariath? I thought he was just a myth." Really, I'm a myth? Well, I've always wanted to be idolized by people. "Okay, so what's your name?" I ask.
"I'm Amelia, the tall one is Atreyu, the other girl is Aeryn, the one next to her is Astrid and the final one is Idris," She finishes. Atreyu looks to have an axe, while Aeryn has a whip, Astrid has a Bow and Idris has a scythe. Amelia and I are the only the only one with a sword, that's rare. Normally there isn't an axe, a whip and a scythe. They must have found something when I was gone.
"The safe haven's this way, I'm sure i can pull a couple of strings and get you in," Amelia says.
"Alright, lets go!" I say trying not to get my hopes up.
I just wanna apologize for taking longer than one week to get this chapter out. I will be returning to my normal upload schedule with one chapter every two days.
