I’M A CAT???

Kate felt fuzzy.

Everything seemed…wrong, all distorted and wobbly and way too big.

Whether it was the world that had gone wrong or merely her perception of the world that had gone wrong, Kate could not tell.

She didn't know how long she had been passed out.

When she finally came to, her vision was still a bit blurry. Her head throbbed in pain, but not as much as before.

In front of her, she could see that Professor Kyle was still lying on the ground. She was certain the lightning strike had something to do with it even if she could not quite figure out how.

Kate had expected chaos. Utter, complete, noisy chaos. But even though she strained her ears she could hear nothing. The world had gone eerily silent.

Did the lightning strike knock everyone (and maybe everything) out?

In a panic, Kate turned to Professor Kyle and—

*Meow* <professor? >

Kate was stunned.

She had intended to call Professor Kyle, but what came out of her mouth was definitely a meow.

It was not her, right…?

This…

Kate lowered her head.

The floor was close, very close. Her hands were not hands.

They were white paws.

What?

Twisting her neck as far as it could go, Kate took a good look at her back. It was covered with soft, downy fur, almost like a cloud.

If this was any other time, she would definitely admire…

No, even if this was any other time, she would never be able to stay calm.

"A…"

Kate raised her not-hand and wiggled it a bit, moving it from right to left. Right to left again as if hoping that everything was nothing but a bad dream.

"MEOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!"

It was quite a feat that a kitten so small could make a sound so loud.

Kate tried to stand up.

Thud!

Her small body felt drained of energy. Her mind, on the other hand, was spinning with countless thoughts.

"Meow? Meow! Meow… Meow! Meow. Meow. Meow. Meow."

Kate could hear her own desperation in the cat's wails.

Where's her body?

Why did she turn into a cat?

How did she turn into a cat?

What in the world just happened?

"Meow."

As Kate struggled to control her new body, she realised, with a chill in her heart, that Professor Kyle was the only human in the room. Was she not holding this cat in her hand before she fainted?

So where's her body?

Where's her human body?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Kate wanted to cry but no tears came.

All that was left was the high-pitched, desperate wailing of a small kitten who couldn't accept the world.
