"Right now?" Mauve asked, a mix of horror and excitement in her voice.
"Yes. I could certainly use the distraction," Jael's voice dropped.
"Was it that bad?" She asked, her brows furrowing at the change in his tone.
"You could say that," he responded. "But enough talk," he said, bringing his face closer to hers.
Jael leaned in, his breath warm against her cheek, his eyes burrowing into hers. The dim candlelight flickered, casting shadows on the walls of the study. Mauve felt her heart race and her stomach knot. Jael's hand gently cupped her face, his touch sending a shiver down her spine.
Without another word, he closed the distance between them, his lips meeting hers in a fervent kiss. Mauve's initial surprise melted away, and she eagerly responded, her fingers instinctively going for his hair. She tangled her fingers with the strands and lightly tugged, undoing the ponytail.
