Guilty Conscience

The footsteps of both men echoed further away from Ivan until they faded into nothingness. Once he was certain they were gone, Ivan cautiously emerged from from his hiding spot.

'War?'

'What did he mean by war?' Ivan thought with a confused expression.

Just one word from the soldier had flipped Ivan's entire understanding of the whole situation and, complicating matters even more.

'How could there have been a war?' Who'd even attack us? Ivan was utterly perplexed. Judging by the sun's positioning and lighting, he estimated that he had been unconscious for six hours, at most seven hours tops. How on earth did a war occur in such a short period. And it seemed like Tasvill won, or Yaran rather, because the other soldier had clearly stated that there had not been any news from the other cities.
