Chapter Three

The next day, I arrived at my normal time. The day was going to be bright, I thought.

"Nneoma Ekwe." I heard my name and recognized the voice. Well l don't think my day would go as expected.

It is Mrs Ada, our English teacher. I stood up and she asked "do you have your textbook?."

"no ma." I answered.

"didn't I tell you to get them last week?."

"ma-- ." I tried to say something but she interrupted me "I don't want to hear those." she added "just stand outside."

I obeyed and stood outside. Only if she can understand what am facing by being embarrassed every single day she would have gone easy on me.

"chineye, could you please read the paragraph?." I heard as I walk out.

"yes." She answered.

"move a little bit front." Mrs Ada said when she caught me putting my ears to the window to grab some words. I moved and she entered the class back. I was okay as long as that didn't stop me from achieving my usual grade in class.

As I stood outside, I feel my legs shake and wobble. I've been staring at the birds. Actually, am not the type that is interested in nature but it looks like the birds are really amazing. The most amazing part is the way they coo, it is beautiful.

"hello?." someone was waving at my face.

"hi." I said and used my palm to clear my face. A boy stood beside me. He looks familiar from the way he smile to his body shape and height. But I couldn't recall- oh the fashion magazine. He is the model I saw in last week's fashion magazine which I picked on my way back from school. Why is he in our uniform?, I asked myself.

"sorry you were so engrossed in your thoughts."

I smiled "I guess."

"can you please show me Mrs Ann class?." he asked politely with a smile.

I love his smile, it is so unique. I can't believe the guy standing before me is the model, he is tall with good features, brown hair and dark eyes and a well bridged nose.

"please?" he begged bringing me to reality.

Mrs Ann is our class teacher so I figured he is going to my class.

"that's the class." I pointed forward.

"thank you." he said and turned.

Am not still sure if he is the same person from the magazine, maybe because of his politeness. Since I have the magazine at home I decided to check it well when I get home.

After English class, I entered only to find the whole class crowded in front of the new guy.

"don't you know him? he is Mr Nwachukwu's son, the rich businessman. He is so cute." Stella said to her friends.

Mr Nwachukwu's son? Having him here is cool but I wasn't expecting the son of a rich man to come to our school.

"come sit at my front." Sarah, an average girl with round shaped face said.

"he can't sit with a round shaped face." Stella teased.

"my seat is not for you to decide." the new boy said at last leaving the class amazed at his fluent English.

"I'll seat there." he said pointing to the chair near the wall. At my back! What?!.

I remained quiet and paved way for him to pass to his seat.

"Nneoma." someone called.

I turned to meet the round face girl that was told off by Stella.

"Sarah." I said.

"can we go home after school...together?." she asked.

I see no reason why we should go home together, like we don't even talk, I thought.

"okay." I said.

After school, we walked home in silence waiting for one to break it.

"so why do you want to go home with me today, we don't even stay on the same street." I started.

"just wanted to make a new friend."

"wow so you knew I existed?." I asked her.

I was surprised. What could make her come to me?.

Though she is a good girl and I would prefer her than Stella but I have no standard when compared to her.

"sorry I wasn't only noticing you but I fully observed you."

"what?."

"I mean even though you are not rich you still have a good character, good behavior and good grades." she explained.

"so?." I asked.

"I need a friend like you." she concluded and entered the street leading to her house.

Wow, I can't believe it. Did she just say that?.

"okay I understand." I said to no one in particular.
