Lukas settled in at the small table in his dorm room and opened the books he had retrieved from the library. The pages contained diagrams and explanations of the sigils he had purchased.
He began by studying the Sigil of Half Dome first. The instructions explained how to focus his magical essence and shape it into the protective curved form. Of course, he would have gotten something like a shield. He didn't have a reason since he was already familiar with this. One of his comrades had used this in various ways.
No, he didn't want to limit himself to using the existing theories of how people normally use sigils. He wanted to create his own path. That was also why he wasn't choosing any main courses now. He first wanted to see what he was capable of.
Grabbing the mana practice pen, he started drawing the sigil. It was kind of hard, as he expected.
And thus, just like that, a couple of hours passed by before he completely grasped all of the sigils. Of course, this frightening speed was heaven-defying, but he was an exception. He didn't want to focus on actual casting using the wand. His first focus was to earn as many credit points as he could.
Thus, practicing with the wand was useless for him as no one would see him using his soul gear on the Jelfs Tower.
With the practice done, he started engraving them on the soul gear. Another hour passed by, and he finally finished every combination he could think of.
As he was doing this, he realized he would have needed another necessary sigil. Well, what can he do? He's broke now and has to kill those lions before he can earn some more.
Of course, the academy has quests for first years within the academy. But he didn't want to do them! He wanted to fight and earn like how he used to in his past life.
Habits are hard to change, as expected for him.
The engravings were finished, and he looked at the five masterpieces he created using the available sigils he had. On the pages.
And he started practicing them crazily. Thankfully, the rewards for passing the tower get delivered right to one's dormitories, making it convenient.
Soon, after another two hours of straight practice and then one hour from two more hours of practice, he finally brought them to the second level.
And he could finally see their stats. It turns out that their function was better than he expected. And thus, with that, he now had four spells!
Spiraling Drill (Lv: 2)
Contains sigils: Circle, Sharpness, Pathwave, Condensed, Spiral.
Transforms essence into a spinning drill imbued with sharpness for attacks.
With the practicing done, Gulping down the last mana recovery potion, he collapsed on the bed. He was mentally exhausted.
Gazing at the ancient-looking clock on the walls, he muttered, "Let's take a quick nap."
And closed his eyes, lost in slumber. Little did he know the quick nap wasn't quick but lasted quite a long time, about 5 hours, while something huge was taking place in the Rhys Verdon State.
They had already prepared everything for the expedition along with the authority from the head family and started heading to Mirrage Hundred Mountains. Meanwhile, another huge event was taking place on the Hundred Mountains.
Little did Lukas know his simple note would change the whole future completely and face an event that shouldn't have happened in the history Lukas was familiar with.
----
Lukas slowly opened his eyes, blinking in the dim light of his dorm room. As his senses returned, he realized with a start that it was now dark outside. He jolted up into a sitting position and grabbed his clock, holding it close to read the hands in the low light.
"Five hours?!" he exclaimed in disbelief. How had his quick nap turned into such a long sleep? Lukas ran a hand through his disheveled hair, trying to shake off the last vestiges of slumber. Clearly, he had overexerted himself more than he realized while practicing his new spells.
Lukas quickly got up, freshened up, and went to the washroom. Before heading outside, he couldn't afford to abandon his plan for today. He was broke and wanted to eat something good for breakfast tomorrow. The only way he could do that was to kill those sand lions.
If he failed once, bread would be the only thing he would have for tomorrow's breakfast.
