A day with Ophis

Arriving at his apartment, Mateus glimpses a person in the same uniform as his entering the door next to his.

"So, my neighbor also studies at my school." That's why Mateus wasn't expecting it, but no problem, this is a more than welcome surprise.

Before entering his house, Mateus simply takes a deep breath. Once inside his apartment, everything is calm as he left it. Without much delay, he heads to his room and quickly changes clothes.

Waiting for his little friend Ophis, he fiddles with his phone until suddenly he feels someone trying to enter his room through unconventional means.

Mateus learned a lesson after almost being assassinated, so without delay, he learned barrier magic. What he did in his apartment is easy to explain; he practically isolated that room from the world, allowing entry only with Mateus's permission.

Remembering the barrier he cast, he forgot that Ophis wouldn't enter his house normally or knock on the door. Feeling a bit foolish about this, Mateus heads to his door and opens it, seeing the little acquaintance in front of him; he invites her in.

Upon entering the room, Ophis notices something. 'It's silent in here.' In her life, there is only one thing Ophis desires, to regain her silence, expelling the Great Red from the dimensional gap. That's why she has a faction and looks for strong people to defeat the Great Red. But feeling the silence and peace inside this room, Ophis recalls something Mateus said to her during their first encounter.

"I don't want trouble; I just want to relax and be lazy. If you find that interesting, consider yourself invited to visit my house." Remembering this, Ophis understands why he can stay so relaxed within this room.

Little does Ophis know that she is quite mistaken; Mateus can be lazy even without the "silence" she desires—it's all a coincidence.

"So, Ophis, what did you want with me? You're not going to say you want to live with me, are you? Hahaha." In a playful tone, Mateus simply asks Ophis what she wants to discuss with him. Little does Mateus know...

"Yes, I want to live here." Surprise. A feeling that Mateus once said didn't make much sense in his life anymore, but this time he can't help but feel genuinely surprised.

'Come to think of it... now I understand.' With brief thoughts, Mateus reaches the conclusion of why Ophis wants to live with him, especially understanding what kind of person Ophis is.

"Well, what can you give me in return to live here?" Mateus believes in equivalent exchanges; he has to gain something in return for letting such a troublesome being live here. At least, that makes sense to him, and to the author as well.

"I can give you power." Revealing a snake that appeared out of nowhere, Ophis offers it to Mateus, who quickly responds, "I don't need that. Do you have something else to offer?"

After some consideration and thoughts from Ophis, she emptily replies, "I have nothing to offer you."

Upon hearing this response, Mateus has a slight impression that he's seeing a sad little puppy in front of him. Thinking for a moment, Mateus comes up with a way to let Ophis live with him.

"Well, you can live with me, but you have to do two things for me. First, you have to abandon your Khaos Brigade organization. Are you willing?" Without hesitation, Ophis quickly responds, like a child wanting a reward from their parents, "Yes, I can leave the Khaos Brigade. But what's the other condition?" Easily agreeing to leave her organization, Ophis wonders what else Mateus wants from her.

"Well, if you can leave your own organization, this should be a piece of cake for you. I want you to become my little sister!" Mateus is a man of principles, and as such, he feels obligated to have a Dragon God as his little sister. In reality, he just likes little sisters, but don't confuse him with a lolicon, okay? Okay? He's not a lolicon, I think...

Caught off guard, Ophis expected literally anything except having to be a little sister to a guy she just met. But since she's willing and resolute, this can't be an obstacle for her.

"I accept," Ophis says with certainty. Hearing this, Mateus tries not to show it on the surface, but inside, he is boiling with joy. 'I achieved one of my goals in another world.' He really wanted to have a little sister. Meanwhile, Mateus hears a voice he hasn't heard in two chapters.

[Congratulations, host, you have learned the poker face skill.] For trying to hide his joy with a neutral expression, Mateus was rewarded by learning a new skill.

Not caring much about it, Mateus turns his attention back to Ophis. Looking at her, he says, "Since you've accepted the conditions, I have no objections to you living here. Welcome to my, and now yours too, home." Welcoming his new housemate, Mateus shows a warm expression and reveals his true feelings with a smile.

Looking closely at Mateus, who is smiling at her, Ophis, for the first time, realizes that her new friend(?) is really someone handsome. But this thought quickly leaves her mind, so she doesn't pay much attention. Perhaps another lazy person in this house? Only time will tell.

"How about we eat some shortcakes I bought as a celebration for your new home?" Mateus asks but can't help mentally praising himself for being a prepared guy. 'Maybe I'm becoming less lazy?' Mateus thinks because what he did for Ophis by buying the cakes was a proactive action, something not common for him.

Unaware, our protagonist is gradually letting go of excessive laziness to become a more normal lazy person. That's a significant progress.

Time passes, and a typical hour in this story arrives—the dinner time. Once again, facing a life dilemma, Mateus thinks about what might be good for dinner. He's a bit too proactive today; he even decided to make dinner. However, with no ideas or motivations, Mateus finds himself at a dead end.

While pondering what might be good to prepare, he looks at Ophis, but quickly returns to his thoughts, thinking that asking her what might be good for dinner could be even more frustrating.

"Let's go with something simple, then." Coming to the conclusion that overthinking won't help, he decides to go with something simple and opts to prepare gyudon. Mateus quickly gathers the ingredients and prepares for a good cooking session.

Putting soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar in a small bowl, Mateus swiftly mixes them. In a pan, he quickly cooks onions and then browns the meat well. Afterward, he adds the sauce to the meat and onions.

While preparing the food, his little dragon, who is watching television, smells the aroma and looks at Mateus in the kitchen, as if saying, 'I want some.' Looking at the adorable creature, Mateus says, "Don't worry, Ophis, the food will be ready in a few minutes."

Continuing to cook, he adds water to the pan and lets it boil until it's ready. While the dish is not yet prepared, Mateus decides to chop some green onions to sprinkle over the dish.

After a few minutes, the rice he had put in the pan earlier is ready. Looking at what he's preparing in the other pan, he's satisfied that it's ready. Then, looking at little Ophis, he says, "Dinner is ready, Ophis, let's eat."

Sitting at the table, Mateus prepares a bowl for Ophis, putting rice, breaking an egg over it, adding the meat he prepared, and the chopped green onions. There you go! A Gyudon dish is ready.

Following the same process for himself, Mateus prepares to eat. "Itadakimasu." Thanking for the food, they savor the good meal they have on the table.

After enjoying a good meal, Mateus spends more quality time (or rather, lazy time) with Ophis, watching anime on TV. It seems that Ophis really enjoys watching anime.

Thinking about where Ophis will sleep tonight, Mateus remembers a magic he recently learned.

On a lazy night, a thought crossed Mateus's mind, 'What if I learn creation magic?' With such a question in mind, he began to dedicate himself to learning this magic. Gathering magical power within him, Mateus starts to envision this power taking shape.

After some attempts, some errors, Mateus managed to create what he had imagined, a simple piece of iron. Seeing that it's a very interesting magic, Mateus trained tirelessly until late at night, reaching a questionable level of mastery in this skill. [Creation Magic Mastery - 6]

Recalling when he learned this magic, Mateus can't help but contemplate that this is a great skill. He can create anything he wants, except living beings, but he thinks it might be possible when he reaches the maximum mastery of this skill.

Using this ability, he quickly creates a futon for Ophis to sleep on and places it next to his bed in his room. Mateus decides that now is a good time to go to sleep, so he heads to his bed. Ophis accompanies him to his room to go to sleep as well, but instead of sleeping on the futon, she lies down next to him on the bed.

Mateus thinks, 'No problem, it's nice to sleep next to such a cutie.' With cheerful thoughts, Mateus goes to sleep, but before sleeping, he decides to take a look at his stats since it's been quite a while since he last checked.
