The Struggling Cultivator

To cultivate is to struggle. There are those who picture their struggle as a means of fighting against the heavens. Others struggle against their enemies or those who look down on them from on high. But a select few, struggle not against an almighty force, or opposition, but simply against themselves. --------------- Obviously cover isn't mine, if you are the creator just tell me and I'll change it/credit you depending on what you want.

Chapter 5 Gibberish

"Damn this guy Raruro is pretty dumb, but what is this cliff hanger." Mo Xiaowen mumbled before putting down "Raruro: The Blonde Haired Fox Cultivator".

During this week he had read the cultivation books again, and even studied "Body Tempering: My Battles" thoroughly. This encompassed the first 2 days, after that he began to read the fictional books.

He had tried to read the books from the other shelves but they were simply repeating knowledge he already knew so he lost interest fast. On the other hand while the fictional books were nonsensical at times they were quite enjoyable and were a good means of relaxation for Mo Xiaowen.

Unfortunately today Mo Xiaowen had finished all the books in the fiction shelf and because of this he was left with nothing to do in the library. 'Guess I need to find a new hobby.' He sighed before heading towards the exit.

"Hmm, you've finished those books?" The librarian asked. Immediately Mo Xiaowen halted his steps before nodding.

"Well, if you're interested I have some odd books you can peruse just don't damage them and you can do what you want with them. I'll even allow you to take them out of the library as long as you return them on time." The librarian suggested before taking out 5 books.

They were all dusty and seemed old and even more unused than the other books. And that was saying something. After all this library was already very unused, so what did that say about these books?

'Well beggars can't be choosers.' He thought before grabbing the books. After sorting out some details with the librarian Mo Xiaowen then took the books and headed to his residence. It was better for him if he could keep them at home for a while.

The books were quite a bit thicker than the others, and also it allowed Mo Xiaowen to take down notes if needed. Who knows there might just be a hidden treasure within one of these books?

Arriving at his residence Mo Xiaowen began reading the first of the 5 books, and immediately he was stumped. 'Was the author crazy?? These sentences make no sense, "The lizard's body hot rock tearing water" in what world does this make sense?? And what are these numbers?' Mo Xiaowen deliberated before continuing on.

Soon the sun began to set on the horizon, and Mo Xiaowen closed the book before going to bed. He didn't understand one thing but he continued to read through it thoroughly just in case he missed something. 'No wonder no one has used this book in so long, I feel like I am becoming dumber while reading it.'

With that thought Mo Xiaowen fell asleep once again, he could just take more time to understand the books, it wasn't like some demon was chasing after him.

The next day was pretty normal for Mo Xiaowen. It still consisted of him training, reading and eating the only difference was that he stayed within his residence rather than go out to the library. But things weren't going very smoothly.

While his training couldn't be going better, the 5 books frustrated him to no end. After finishing the first book and still being very very confused, Mo Xiaowen began reading the second and then the third, fourth and fifth in quick succession.

This wasn't because he finished the books very quickly. Rather it was because he literally couldn't read them. One of them was damaged beyond repair, to the point where he couldn't even make out a single letter, while the other three were in a language he had never seen before.

'I've read about the concept of other languages before but had never seen them, where could these books be from?!' Mo Xiaowen questioned. After all as far as he knew there was only 1 language in the Lone Sword Continent, that being Gnilesh.

At that moment Mo Xiaowen thought of a possibility. 'These couldn't be from another continent could they? I mean we're right at the coast.....' He concluded, but decided not to pursue the matter further. He had no idea if other continents even existed and it was merely a wild guess on his part so he decided to ditch the idea.

This all left Mo Xiaowen with a singular option, reread the first book. While he couldn't understand it he could at least read it, maybe he'd find something hidden within it? Maybe.

Day after day Mo Xiaowen continued studying this book, but he wasn't having much luck. About 3 days later Mo Xiaowen had to stop studying the book, not because he had given up although he was very close to it, but rather he had to go to the registration office.

Today was the monthly resource collection which was quite the important event for all the disciples. After all who didn't like more resources?

Closing the book, Mo Xiaowen left his residence and headed towards the registration office. Naturally there were quite a few disciples who were doing the same, but he couldn't help but notice something odd.

Unlike previous months the number of disciples were about half. Due to being so caught up in his training Mo Xiaowen hadn't noticed that a number of disciples had left from his batch, not to mention that some of the other batches had lost even more disciples.

This wasn't a very good sign for the Sect's future development, but alas that was of no concern to Mo Xiaowen, they could only blame themselves for letting Zhao Wuji open his mouth.

Arriving at the registration office he quickly entered the line and began to wait for his turn. Today was extremely important to him, training had its limits so the only way he could boost himself would be resources.

'If I could use that my training would be on a whole other level, unfortunately I am not that insane.' Mo Xiaowen sighed inwardly. Soon it was his turn but he could hear a ruckus coming from the front of the line.

"Woah, they gave you 3 Body Tempering Pills instead of 2?"

"What's the occasion?!"

The disciples exclaimed one after the other. Hearing this even Mo Xiaowen was somewhat excited and could barely hold himself back from rushing to the front of the line. Sure was 1 extra Body Tempering Pill all that important, probably not. But mosquito meat was still meat.

Arriving at the end of the line, Mo Xiaowen swiftly identified himself before being handed 3 brown pills, and 6 blue grasses. While he was very happy to receive the pills, his expression when receiving the grasses was quite mixed.

Deciding not to think much of it, he put away the pills and grasses and began to leave the registration office.

"CHEN ZEMIN!"

But before he could even leave, a shout resounded throughout the office.
