Chapter 11 - Unexpected Success

John stood before the dead, fiery bear in a state of shock.

He couldn't believe what he had just done as he looked at his hand, remembering the skill he had used a while ago.

As he looked at his hand, he was Surprised by the relentless tears that streamed past his vision, watching in amazement as the salty drops rolled off his tight grasp.

His eyes prickling from the onslaught, he sought desperately to regain control, yet the emotions were so strong he found himself powerless to resist.

John swiped his tears as he realized that he had achieved something that he didn't expect to achieve.

He might not be able to create an attack type skill out of his white aura, but he managed to create a skill over the object he had infused with his aura.

This type of skill is known as psychokinetic control, something that purple aura users are known to have.

John felt he was now closer to mastering his white aura and he vowed to never give up until he achieved his goal.

John searched for a piece of rock to test his newly discovered skill.

He found a rock in a mere distance and he took it.

As he directed his aura towards the dull rock, the white aura energy caused it to shine with a luminescent intensity.

It seemed to grow even more solid, giving an aura of strength and durability.

John placed the rock atop the tree log, then he focused his mind, visualizing that he was controlling the rock to fly through the air. The rock flew through the air elegantly and he could even make the rock dance in the air if he wanted to.

John smirked realizing the skill he had done wasn't just a luck.

John stood alone in the clearing, staring at the corpse of the dead fiery bear.

He thought to himself, "I need to somehow prove that I killed this beast. I have already lost my sword. But maybe I can use my aura..."

He closed his eyes and focused his aura on his right hand.

After a few moments, his hand began to glow brightly, emitting an aura that was as sharp as blades.

John opened his eyes and focused his gaze on the dead beast.

With a deep breath, he swung his hand in an attempt to behead the dead animal.

At first, he thought he wouldn't be able to cut through the impenetrable fur, but to his surprise, the fur yielded and allowed his forcible hand to pass through.

John inhaled a deep breath of relief.

Ripping off his cloak with determination, he formed a bag with it and carefully placed the severed head of the dead fiery beast within, and sought out the second fiery bear.

After searching around the area, he eventually found the corpse of another fiery bear.

He repeated the same process with this second bear, cutting off its head and placing it in the bag.

With both trophies in tow, John headed off to the Hunter's Guild.

With proof of his accomplishments, he was sure to receive the reward he was seeking.

***

John entered the Hunter's Guild with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

He carried with him the two trophies that he had just taken from the Fiery Bear -- proof of his strength and skill.

His eyes were lined with determination and his stance was strong as he made his way to the receptionist desk.

John's presence caused a stir among the other hunters in the guild.

They couldn't believe that someone had beaten the Fiery Bear not once, but twice!

In a low whisper, one hunter asked the other, "Do you think he could have done it alone? Maybe someone stronger helped him?"

The other nodded in response, "It might be possible. He is only a White Aura user, even if he is skilled in swordsmanship. It would have been difficult for him to kill it alone, since the Fiery Bear is known to have an impenetrable fur that many other hunters have found difficult to hunt."

John ignored the stares of the other hunters as he addressed Erika, "Hello, Erika! My mission was just to kill one fiery bear, but I killed two. Does that mean I will receive double the rewards for this mission?" He asked as he present the huge head of two fiery bear.

Erika shook her head and looked at the huge head with disgusting look.

"The mission said that you only need to kill one, yet, you killed two. That is the contract you have signed! However, as a consideration for your extra effort I will speak to the master and see if he will be willing to consider your request."

Erika stood up and headed to the Guild's master room. "Wait a moment, I'll be back."

After a moment, Erika returned with a happy expression on her face. "The master has considered your request and has added fifty percent to your mission's gold reward. However, doing extra work is not our business to compensate for, so the next time make sure to complete the mission to the exact details."

John nodded in appreciation. "I understand."

Erika took out a pouch of gold and handed it to John. "Here is your reward. As for the old man's special item, we don't have it here. You may visit him in the River Village near the mountain peak."

"Thanks, I appreciate the extra gold," John accepted the reward with a sense of satisfaction and pride.

He had just achieved something not many hunters on his peers could brag about.

"Is there any exclusive contract available?" John asked.

Erika shook her head. "There is no exclusive contract today, but we have a plethora of normal missions on the mission board, such as gathering materials, and more!"

"Nevermind, but if there is any B rank exclusive or non-exclusive monster hunting mission, please remember to leave me some. Thanks, Erika!" John said.

Erika simply smiled in response as she looked at John, admiration in her eyes.

John smiled back and left the Hunter guild with a satisfied hum in his heart, a satisfied strut in his step and pride in his chest. He thought to himself, 'I did it - my first mission as a Hunter!'
