Chapter Five

Caleb P.O.V

It's been a couple of days since I found out I was pregnant and, since then, I've missed a couple of days of school. Aidan, Ry and Jordan all agreed that I should have some time off to "adjust to the situation". Of course, I'm happy they care, but I've missed so much school that I'm worried I've fallen behind! And I have no doubt Mr Collins won't be pleased with me in the slightest. Anyway, it's currently Wednesday and I'm begging Aidan to let me go to school today.

"Please, Aidan! I-I've missed so much and I really can't fall behind! Plus if I'm off for too long then people are gonna get suspicious and I'm not ready to tell anyone yet! I can't handle another one of Matthew's lectures either. I'm just stressing over not being there when not being there is supposed to benefit me but it really isn't! And-", I'm cut off when a pair of lips meet mine. My body tenses for a second but soon relaxes when I realise it's Aidan. Soon enough, he breaks the kiss and grabs my shoulders, looking me in the eyes. He releases a small sigh before speaking.

"Okay, Caleb, okay. You can go back in, but please just be careful. I-I don't know what I would do if something happened to you or the little one, so please just.. promise me that you'll look after yourself. I know I'll be there the whole time but I just want to know you're gonna be careful..". I nod my head and jump into his arms excitedly, hugging him. He chuckled before hugging me back.

"Now, it's probably best you go and get changed, huh, Caleb?" he questions as he sets me down and ruffles my hair. I smile and give him my signature closed-eye smile, before walking out of his room and making my way to my own.

After changing into my uniform, I get into the elevator so I can grab something to eat and walk to class with Aidan. Sliding out of the elevator, I make my way to the kitchen and grab an apple. It's one of the only things I can keep down at the minute and I'm pretty grateful that I manage to do that.

A few minutes later, Aidan comes in and kisses my forehead before grabbing a pot of ready-made soba. He grabs a pair of chopsticks and we walk to school while eating our breakfast. Before we go inside, we throw our rubbish into the bin and Aidan pecks my cheek.

"Babe, I know I've already said this, but please be careful. If you're not with me, stick with Jordan or Riley, okay?", he calmly says. Just looking at his face, you can see the worry his eyes and small smile hold. I feel so bad that he's this worried about me, but I really don't know what I can do to make him stop considering he's always worried a little too much about me. I simply smile and hold up my pinky finger, a small smile on my face.

"I pinky promise you, Aidan!", I say and giggle at how childish I must sound. He chuckles before wrapping his pinky around mine and smiling. He then grabs my hand and we start making our way to the classroom. When we walk through the door, I'm greeted by a flood of worried classmates. I gasp as Amber latches herself onto me and rants on about how worried she was. As she's doing this, I swear I heard a low growl come from Aidan. After around ten minutes of questions, hugs and conversations, Mr Collins walks in, cocooned in his signature navy sleeping bag.

I was angry. No, seething. Mr Collins said the one thing I was praying that he wouldn't.

"Alright kids, we're doing intense training today. Change into your gear and head to the track. You'll be put into groups and your teacher will explain the rest when you arrive." he says, before going onto the floor, presumably to sleep. I glance around the classroom and almost everyone looks excited. Almost. I see Jordan with a seemingly larger than usual scowl on his face and Riley, almost as pale as me. I then turn my gaze to Caleb. He looks scared; he's fidgeting with his hands as he looks at the table, his mouth moving. He must be mumbling again. The whole class soon starts making their way to the changing rooms, with looks of pure excitement on their faces. I see him forcing a smile from the corner of my eye as he talks to Matthew and Felix. It's so convincing that even I might've fallen for it. I sigh and continue walking over to him.

"Baby, we've got to go change. Come with me?", I ask and slide an arm around his waist. He flushes and waves to the guys he was talking to as we both walk off.

Once we had changed into our gear, I exchanged a look with Jordan and Riley when I was sure he wasn't looking. During this time, I took a closer look at them. They looked just as worried as me; they were fidgeting and subconsciously glancing at Caleb from time to time. They swiftly nod back at me and make their way towards us.

"Heyyy Aidan, bro! Caleb! Who's ready to watch Felix short-circuit during training?", Riley says, trying to lighten the mood a little. Luckily, it works as both Caleb and Jordan let out a small laugh before awkwardly looking towards each other. I can't believe my eyes as Jordan hugs the other boy, squeezing him a little too tight.

"Be careful today. Alright, Caleb? You've gotta look after you and the brat, and all of us, even me, are worried. Just stay safe, got it?", he says. Caleb lets out a small chuckle, then hugs him back and nods. We all talk among ourselves as we walk out to the training area to find Coach Tyler and the rest of our class waiting for us.

"Ah, I see you four finally decided to show up. Alright, let's all get on the bus, we're heading to the training building to do our intensive training. Not only will you be working on different terrains, but you'll also have to initiate combat with an opposing group in the exercise. We will sort the rest out when we get there. For now, get on the bus, kids!" Coach Tyler explains and I swear my stomach does a flip. 'Combat. As in, Caleb has to fight?! He's barely eaten or slept properly in days and now he has to fight people and risk getting not just one but two people hurt... Please, please Caleb, be okay..', I think as I get onto the bus. I sit next to the window as Caleb takes the seat next to me, laying his head on my shoulder. I subconsciously wrap an arm around him and place a light kiss on his forehead. He laughs before snuggling into me further, most likely trying to get a little rest before we get to the training building.

For the rest of the bus trip, I keep Cal warm while he sleeps and chats with Riley and Jordan. Honestly, I had no idea Jordan would care so much about him considering half the time he's trying to fight him. Anyway, we discuss what we're going to do if he's paired with anyone other than us and decide that, based on the person, we would decide what to do. To be truthful though, I doubt Mr Collins hasn't picked up on us acting strange, so he may address the situation with us. That would make it much easier; then Caleb wouldn't have to participate in anything too intense.

My thoughts are brought to a halt as the bus jolts forward, meaning we've arrived. I tap Caleb's shoulder to wake him up and we all exit the bus. There we stood, in front of the training building, waiting to find out who we were paired with. My breath hitches as we find out.
