Veer took a deep breath and a stoic mask settled on his face. He looked straight into my eyes. "I know we barely know each other, and we already owe you for saving our lives...but I feel you have already come to care for my brother...will you do one last thing for us? Will you keep him safe until I can eliminate the threat?"
That sounded ominous.
"I'll keep you both safe," I whispered. "You're family."
The bitter smile came back. "I'm afraid it is a little too late for me. Take care of my brother for me, Jagadhaatreyi, please. Take him in as you took in Sameer."
Adi burst in, his eyes blazing with anger.
"Leaving me again?" he spat at his brother.
"Adi..." Veer stood up and held out his hands in a placating gesture.
"Does it make you feel all noble and useful? Will you be happy when you finally get yourself killed?" Adi shouted.
Veer looked away.
My temper snapped.
"You're idiots, both of you," I said grimly. "Nobody is going anywhere. Adi, what did your friend say?"
