Prologue

Darkness... That's all there was, that's all she saw, for the darkness felt thick, as if it could be touched or grasped, or was it that? Am I blind? She thought to herself. Her wrists were shackled, her arms outstretched, enough to know if it was pulled a little more, her joints would likely dislocate. There was something around her throat too, making it difficult to swollow each time. That wasn't the only problem, she thirsted for relief of water, it felt like days since she had anything to drink. Whoever fed her water, knew when to give it, and when to withhold it.

Time... She began to wonder if it even existed at all. After awhile, she lost track of it, as if the darkness swallowed it up too. Has it been days? Weeks? Months? Years? I can't tell anymore. Has her memories faded too? My name is... Alecia. Her memories are still intact, that, she hoped.

Darkness still loomed all around her, the shackles kept her up, Apart from the cold, damp air surrounding her, the pain she has long since embraced, was one of the only things she felt

Alecia struggled to look up. It was then she felt the need to pray once again. She remembered being a priestess of the goddess of Angelica, back when she was free, back when she tried to live a normal life. Bad decisions she made was what led her to this downfall of hers. No one is coming to get her, she has given that up long ago. The only thing she wants is the peaceful grace of death.

"Angelica, goddess of light." She whispered, her throat feeling dry, and painful.

"I beg of you to release me from my prison, not the prison of this place, but my own body. Please if you're there, release me from myself, end my suffering." She lowered her head, eyes closed.

Alecia repeated this quiet prayer of hers a few more. So many times she's begged for death's hand, but it has not shown. Her neck pained from whatever enclosed it

"I beg of you."

Sounds of herself crying , the echo of her cries was heard a distance away

A familiar female voice called out her name. She opened her eyes. She knew the voice, it was her only comfort.

"Why pray, Alecia?" A female voice asked her from the dark, it sounded clear and close but Alecia, she remained silent.

"I asked you a question."

The voice, it didn't echo like her own voice would. She knew it wasn't Angelica, no, this voice came from the very person she wished had disappeared long ago, or was she finally hearing voices? Was Eva just a voice her mind made up, this time?

Was she finally going insane? Or was this sentience of Eva still locked up inside her mind? How could she tell? It was impossible to know for sure.

A pair of turquoise eyes lit up in the dark.

"How long are you planning on ignoring me?" Eva asked.

There was a slight exhale.

"Until death takes me."

"You can't talk when you're dead."

"Neither can you," Alecia's voice sounded in frustration.

"You honestly think you'll die here soon?"

Alecia ignored her, eyes still closed.

"Too bad for you, they won't let you die," Eva scoffed.

"They would rather keep you alive to suffer here as long as possible."

"If that's the case then I deserve it."

"Why do you say that?"

"All the things I've done," Alecia's voice whimpered.

"The people I've killed. So many of them."

"Know this, half of those people you killed had it coming to them."

"Maybe," Alecia replied.

"Doesn't change what I did."

"It doesn't change anything by crying about it. It's all in the past.

"Back when Silas caused my amnesia on Earth." She let out a sigh.

"I shouldn't have survived."

Eva scoffed.

"I'm growing weary of your whining. That's all you ever do is whine."

Alecia clenched her jaw.

"Then you know what you can do, don't you? Leave me alone."

"Leave you alone to pray to some goddess you use to worship?" Eva scoffed once more.

"Do you still believe in her? Are you only praying to her because you're desperate? So desperate you wish death to be an escape?"

"Why? Jealous?"

Her tone was humoring

"It doesn't look like Angelica is helping you. If she was even real at all," Eva answered.

"Which I highly doubt. If she exists, I'm sorry to say, but it doesn't look like she's going to help you, not even to help you die. Again, if she is real, she was never on your side."

"Can you blame me for trying?"

"I must tell you this, Alecia. You've been praying to this Angelica, someone who never talks back to you. Know this... I am real, and I am the only one here with you, I am the only voice who speaks back.

Alecia remained silent.

"You've been placing your faith in someone you haven't seen, and you, yourself don't really think she even existed. If you want to put your faith in someone, to believe in someone, don't believe in Angelica... Believe in me."

Alecia remained silent still. Just letting her own thoughts stir about her current situation.
