(THIRD PERSON'S POV)
"What do you mean by she said No!" Aztec said and Steele backed away at the tone of his Alpha and friend's angry voice.
"Can you chill?" Steele said.
A low growl rumbled in the chest of the young Alpha werewolf, barely contained even in his human form.
He ran a hand through his thick, dark hair, the sharp angles of his jaw clenching tightly. Beautiful -grey eyes, usually sparkling with arrogance , now glinted with a cold, predatory edge. This wasn't how things were supposed to be . A handsome face, usually relaxed, nonchalant and charming, was etched with frustration.
Rejection, it seemed, wasn't something the Alpha was accustomed to. No one dared say No to him and definitely not a female of any kind.
Today of all days? She was trying him on a wrong day. The day he awaited for fifteen good years, the day he would begin the journey to seek his father's revenge and free his pack from this dark time. He had gone to see the sorceress taken by his Late Father's gama and then he had received a surprise.
A human whom he was supposed to take as his Luna for the purpose of fighting this darkness.
"You told her it was the plan of our fathers and that it's for the benefit of the people?" Aztec asked and Steele nodded before shrugging.
"She said she does want to be involved with the plan or the contract marriage." The beta said.
Aztec was not sure of what exactly bothered him more at the moment. No female had ever told him no. Who was she to tell him No? And then there was the fact that if she is saying No then it meant she was giving trouble with the plan.
"Damn it!" The Alpha said slamming his fist on the mahogany table before him.
Left to him, he would not have anything to do with this proud human female. He had even told the sorceress that he could handle it on his own and he did not need a Luna but she had told him he was planing to ruin his pack.
"So who is she than? Some spoiled rich princess?" Aztec asked with irritation. After all, her father was Beta Kelt. Aztec had a faint memory of a small girl Whom he played with on occasions when their fathers met.
Perhaps she had turned in to a spoilt brat and now felt important and wanted him to come and beg her Personally. But Steele shook his head at the Alpha.
"Actually, she looks poor and sad. I think her step Mother and step sisters make her do all the work."
He said with a compassionate look in his eyes.
"So she is like a house keeper?" Aztec asked . "Then why the hell would she turn down my offer? Is she married? Has some boyfriend?"
Even married females and the ones who had boyfriends always wanted to get with Aztec. Nothing stopped them. This rejection was alien to him.
"No. She said does not want to be married to a … well a womanizer." Steele said
Aztec gave him friend a hard look and Steele raised his hands up as if to say? 'no offense'
"Those were her words and not mine." He said.
"What the fuck! Do I have to deal with this now? Why can't she be like any fucking normal girl and say yes. What does she want? For me to beg her? Does she want money? Did you not tell her this had to do with her late father!" He yelled angrily.
"I don't think she wants anything from you. And yes I told her about her father." He answered and shrugged. "I just think she doesn't want to have anything to do with the plan."
Aztec groaned and paced around for some time. Why did it even have to be her? Why not someone else? Besides she was a human after all! So what made her so special!
"Is she beautiful?" He found himself asking.
"Breathtaking." Steele answered and then he added. "And in some sort of humble and pure way."
Aztec looked at him like he was crazy.
But then he decided that he would be the one to approach her himself . There was absolutely no possible way that she would turn him down then .
"What's her name?" He asked
"Rhea." Steele said and the name rang a bell in his head.
"The memorial dinner is tonight so I'll talk to her there." He said in a tired voice and Steele nodded.
The whole pack usually attended the memorial dinner. To give honor to the late Alpha and his Beta. On nights like this, wolves moved in groups because the dark was not safe and being alone was not safe either.
There was no way this woman whoever she is would miss the memorial of her own father. No way on earth and so he would be sure to see her there. He stayed a little more in his office working and thinking of ways to strengthen our security teams fighting at the border. After work, he went home to get dressed for the dinner.
"You look good." He told Steele as he met him outside when he was dressed and ready.
"And you look like the devil." He said. "The grumpy devil."
"The she wolves would love that." Aztec said and they laughed.
All She wolves wished they could marry him and he wished that there was a way he could have so many of them to himself . He may be moody or grumpy but he was always ready to be in the arms of a female.
Now as he got to the venue of the memorial, he said to Steele.
"Find her for me." And then he gave him a nod as a reply.
The memorial was a time for prayers and rituals for the pack. Then the brief feasting came later. Because of the dark times, the pack members hardly ever partied and so this rare occasion had to be enjoyed.
"Alpha Aztec." A beautiful she-wolf called Sera held on to him with pouty lips. "I have not seen you in a while my Alpha."
"I have matters to attend to Sera." He said to her with a strict tone and she gave him a smirk and pulled a rope from her dress that revealed more of her plunging cleavage.
"Meet me after." Aztec said to her and moved away to Steele who was calling for his attention.
"So, have you found her?" He asked.
"She's not here." Steele answered.
Aztec looked at him in astonishment. "What?" He said.
How could she miss this? For her own father? What kind of woman was she ? Perhaps there is more to her than he can imagine. Everyone in the pack was present and she the daughter of the late Beta was not.
"Where is she? Track her scent ." Aztec said to him urgently.
Steele closed his eyes briefly and then opened them.
"I can't find it." He said looking confused.
"You can't find what?" The Alpha asked growing impatient.
"I can't find her scent." Steele said confused .
Aztec growled at him. What did he mean by that?
"You met her and yet you can't find her scent ? You know what? Just tell me where she lives. I'm going for her myself." He said to Steele.
"Better still, I'll take you." Steele.
They stole out of the crowd quickly in their wolf forms and when they had gotten to the mansion, Steele went back to the memorial dinner. Aztec transformed back in to human form and used his super abilities to get in to the house smoothly. The house was dark and quiet. Just as he was wondering if he heard something, someone screamed and the lights came on.
He turned around to see the most beautiful person that he had ever seen in his life.
Breathtaking was accurate.
