The Reaper of the Stars

In the days before skyscrapers, before the continents shifted into their current place, before even written word, it is said that the Sun and the Moon would shine on the Earth in tandem. The warm Sun loved the Moon and so gave parts of its light to the cold Moon which proudly shone the reflected light granted to her by her lover. The warm touch of Sunlight kept the humans on Earth alive, their crops thriving and their skin warm and brown. The Sun kept the humans alive, and She shone down on them with a smile, proud to be theirs.... And so the Moon was banished into the Night, where she shone her milky light onto an empty sleeping world below. The lovers were separated, but to keep them apart was impossible. And thus the deities were born. —————— The Deities, the physical manifestation of the Sun and the Moon, forever cursed to reincarnate and find each other anew each time. On Lucian's 16th birthday, he is awakened to his power as the Moon. Surrounded by an odd group of allies, he sets out on a search to find his Sun and save her from whatever fate may await them both at the hands of their many enemies. —————— DISCLAIMER: Not my art in the cover. What Happened in the Basement

"Since you know our names, don't you think you should tell us yours, moon boy?"

Oz looked at One. "Oh! My name's Oz."

One stroked his chin. "Oz. That's a nice name." He leaned in. "So Oz. Tell me, you're a boy right?"

Oz nodded vigorously.

Three walked up to him. For a 13 year old girl, she was intimidating Oz a little too much. She stared at him, moving her head, adjusting her view. She walked around Oz twice. Then she stepped back.

"She's not a boy. I don't understand why she's pretending to be. Aysel cannot reincarnate in a male body."

Suddenly, Four who had yet to say anything, ran up to Oz. He yelled into Oz's face, his voice sharp and panicked, his breath hot on Oz's face.

"You lied! You can't do that! How can you help us if you lie?!"

Oz sat shocked, arms blocking his face from Four's unprovoked attack. Two pulled Four back by the collar.

"Calm down Four. You're scaring her. Look man, she's shaking."

Four glared at Oz.

"She's useless if she lies. We shouldn't have wasted our time."

He adjusted his glasses, mumbling and grumbling for Two to let him go.

Two let go of Four, turning his focus on Oz.

"So why'd you lie?"

Oz was in fact shaking. He had just noticed. "I didn't lie. I'm a boy. Three is wrong."

"Three is never wrong." Two replied right away. "If you're really not a girl, prove it maybe? Only then will I believe Three made a mistake."

Oz was getting frustrated. "I don't owe you anything. If you don't believe me and keep acting like assholes, I won't help you."

Two looked at Oz. Their eyes locked for a moment. "Hmm? You're kidnapped, remember? You don't have much of a choice."

He lunged at Oz, who was still weak from being kidnapped, sitting against the wall. Two yanked at Oz's shirt, ripping some of the buttons. Oz smacked Two off of him with one aggressive punch. He had gotten stronger at hand to hand combat, almost on par with Amar.

Oz's training had paid off, getting Two off him, however Oz's shirt had been pulled halfway off, exposing the nude colored binder under it. He quickly pulled the shirt up.

Two scowled. "The fuck is that? So you are a girl."

Oz got up. He was furious. He didn't even mind the kidnap as much as he minded the blatant disrespect and disregard for him, despite the fact that they apparently so desperately needed his help.

He walked over to Two, who was still shocked from Oz's punch.

"Get up please."

Two looked up, surprised. "What'd you say?"

Oz repeated himself, his tone impatient and louder than before.

"Get up please!"

Two begrudgingly stood.

Oz walked closer to him. He stared Two in the eyes. The two glared at each other for a long time.

One looked awkwardly. "Maybe you should calm down Oz. You too Two."

Neither responded.

Five exhaled hard. "Immature."

"Shut up please." Oz's response surprised Five, and she took a step back.

Oz and Two were still staring at each other.

Suddenly Oz's arm reached out. He hesitated, then he slapped Two. Hard. Two recoiled. "What was that for? Asshole."

Oz walked towards the door of the basement. He just wanted to get out.

"Look at me. I am a boy. I don't care if you see it or not, but it's a simple fact. Oh and, I'm not helping you anymore. You kidnapped me, harassed and assaulted me. If you're that desperate for help, try again and nicely, when I've forgotten about this nonsense of course. Despite the fact that you are strong, you seem to forget the I am a god. Who are you? Fucking minions? Kidnap me? Don't make me laugh. I knew you were coming. I let you take me so I could figure out who the hell you were. Well, now I know, so I'm going to head out."

Oz's anger at the situation had boiled over, and he had come off as much more intimidating than he intended to be. All five of them had gone quiet, staring at their feet.

One was the first to speak.

"I'm truly sor..."

Before he could finish, a group of fifteen or more people burst through the door of the basement, coming face to face with Oz.

Oz stared into a cold face that was grinning from ear to ear.

"There you are, moon bitch."
