The Reaper of the Stars

In the days before skyscrapers, before the continents shifted into their current place, before even written word, it is said that the Sun and the Moon would shine on the Earth in tandem. The warm Sun loved the Moon and so gave parts of its light to the cold Moon which proudly shone the reflected light granted to her by her lover. The warm touch of Sunlight kept the humans on Earth alive, their crops thriving and their skin warm and brown. The Sun kept the humans alive, and She shone down on them with a smile, proud to be theirs.... And so the Moon was banished into the Night, where she shone her milky light onto an empty sleeping world below. The lovers were separated, but to keep them apart was impossible. And thus the deities were born. —————— The Deities, the physical manifestation of the Sun and the Moon, forever cursed to reincarnate and find each other anew each time. On Lucian's 16th birthday, he is awakened to his power as the Moon. Surrounded by an odd group of allies, he sets out on a search to find his Sun and save her from whatever fate may await them both at the hands of their many enemies. —————— DISCLAIMER: Not my art in the cover. Questions

"What'd you mean by he killed me in my past life?"

Amar looked at Oz, confused. "Huh..?"

"Earlier, when you said that your master's grandfather killed me in my past life." Oz repeated.

"Oh!" Amar chuckled. "Why are you asking about this now? You're gonna meet him anyways. The plane is about to land too."

"No tell me," Oz said impatiently. "I wanna know."

"It's a long story. And I'm lazy. Ask Azzy." Amar yawned.

"I told you not to call me that" Asmodeus said softly. He was buried into a neck pillow with a lavender scented eye sleep mask covering his face.

"What a diva" Oz thought.

"Az can you tell me?"

"It's nothing that matters too much, you shouldn't worry about it."

"I thought that as my servant you were supposed to answer anything I asked." Oz replied, mildly annoyed.

Asmodeus peeled off the right side of his eye mask to look Oz in the eyes.

"First of all, I am not your servant, I am your right hand man. Second of all, I am only going to treat you as a god when you have obtained the power of the gods. I am still stronger than you. If I say something, I say so in your best interest. You can try to resist, but I can always use force to put you back in your place. You still have much to learn so I suggest remembering that every so often."

He put his mask back down, leaving Oz stunned. Amar chuckled.

Asmodeus leaned back into his seat and added, "And wasn't it you who asked me to drop all the formalities? I was just trying to honor your request."

Oz sat down, pouting for the remainder of the flight.

When they got off the plane, Oz was still in a sour mood. He walked ahead of Asmodeus and Amar, jerking his rolling suitcase behind him.

"What was that earlier?" Amar asked. "Couldn't you have just told the kid the truth?"

"That 'kid' is not only older than you, but also more powerful. Please show some respect."

Asmodeus picked up his pace to catch up with Oz.

"What is with those two?" grumbled Amar. "Fuckin' dimwits."

He ran to catch up.

Asmodeus was thinking. He was anxious and worried. Should he have told Oz the truth about his last death?

"I cannot tell master the truth about that night. How would I tell him? He has not reached his full potential yet but he is already so dangerous. This alone might be enough to speed up his growth and make him too dangerous. I cannot control master at his most powerful, I cannot even fathom doing so."

Asmodeus shook his head.

"No, there are all just excuses. I made a horrible mistake and I choose not to tell master because I don't want to lose his trust. I don't want to lose him as a friend."

"What are you still sulking about, pretty?" Oz whispered to Asmodeus, as if reading his mind. "I'm not upset about earlier anymore. Let's kiss and make up, ok?"

With a big smile, Oz wrapped his arm around Asmodeus's shoulder. "Catch up, Amar!" He yelled behind them where Amar was struggling with his many bags. "We're off to see your master, shouldn't you be the one leading?"

Asmodeus smiled softly. He couldn't tell Oz the truth. At least not for now.
