The Reaper of the Stars

In the days before skyscrapers, before the continents shifted into their current place, before even written word, it is said that the Sun and the Moon would shine on the Earth in tandem. The warm Sun loved the Moon and so gave parts of its light to the cold Moon which proudly shone the reflected light granted to her by her lover. The warm touch of Sunlight kept the humans on Earth alive, their crops thriving and their skin warm and brown. The Sun kept the humans alive, and She shone down on them with a smile, proud to be theirs.... And so the Moon was banished into the Night, where she shone her milky light onto an empty sleeping world below. The lovers were separated, but to keep them apart was impossible. And thus the deities were born. —————— The Deities, the physical manifestation of the Sun and the Moon, forever cursed to reincarnate and find each other anew each time. On Lucian's 16th birthday, he is awakened to his power as the Moon. Surrounded by an odd group of allies, he sets out on a search to find his Sun and save her from whatever fate may await them both at the hands of their many enemies. —————— DISCLAIMER: Not my art in the cover. Amar

Amar woke up in cold sweat. A shiver had run down his spine. He felt something, an energy, a presence, a power beyond anything he had ever felt in his life. It shocked his bones. He got off his bed trying to mull over what had happened, but he knew. A new incarnation had awakened.

And it was more powerful than any of the incarnations he felt before.

Amar couldn't sleep the whole night. He rose at the crack of dawn and set off to meet with his master.

Amar's master was a middle aged man, slightly shorter than Amar. He had raised Amar since finding him alone on the streets. Amar had been like a son to him ever since. He had taught Amar how to use his magic, how to hone it to protect himself. He too had felt the massive tremors of energy that Amar had felt the night before.

He spoke sternly and in a hushed tone.

"I located the cause of the devine energy we felt yesterday. The 12th Aysel has awakened. You must go and keep a close watch on her for us. And for no reasons are you to disclose the truth behind Aelia to Aysel. I have made all necessary arrangements. You leave in an hour."

Amar sat down beside Oz. He stared him down, similar to the way Asmodeus did when they had first met. He leaned in and whispered, "You the sun god? Or is it the weirdo behind you who won't stop staring at me?"

Oz pulled away in shock. "Who are you?" He asked with distrust. "I just introduced myself. I'm Amar."

"No!" Oz yelled. The class turned to look at him. "Is something wrong Jana?" The teacher looked concerned at Oz. "No, nothing sir." Oz blushed and fixed his gaze on his desk. The class continued. "I'll take it as you're the one I'm looking for." Amar continued. "Let's talk after school. Behind the building. I'll see you there."

Amar didn't so much as glance in Oz's direction for the rest of the class.

Amar was waiting behind the school. Asmodeus was walking briskly towards him, a bewildered Oz in tow. Before anyone could speak, Asmodeus had Amar pinned agains the wall.

"You speak or I wipe your memory right now."

Amar chuckled. "Not killing me? Not the killing type I guess. That's why your master ended up dead 200 years ago. But I guess old habits die hard huh?"

Asmodeus pressed harder. "Who are you? Why are you here? How do you know about master? What do you want?"

"Slow down! One question at a time. And put me down first, would you?"

Asmodeus hesitated.

"It's okay. You can put him down Az." Asmodeus turned around to see Oz looking worried at him, confused with the whole situation. Asmodeus let Amar go.

"Speak."

Amar brushed off his shoulders. "Relax. I'm here to help."

Asmodeus scoffed. "With what, shadow child?"

Amar looked impressed. "Oh so you realized? But your master didn't? Thats right, I'm a shadow child."

Oz stared blankly at Amar.

"Not fully awakened yet, are we?" Amar chuckled and winked at Asmodeus. The latter scowled.

Amar began explaining. "You have been fighting us with Aelia for as long as we can remember. We killed you in the last war, and we have been waiting for you to come back since then. We've been trying to kill you. Permanently."

Oz stepped back. Asmodeus jumped in front of him, beginning to summon a rune.

Amar laughed. It was a sonorous and clear laugh. "I said I'm here to help remember? Well actually, we need your help. Can you help us?"

Asmodeus looked dubious, blocking Amar from making contact with Oz. Oz pushed Asmodeus's arm away. "It's ok. I got this."

Oz stepped forward. "I'm completely confused by this situation, but if we have been fighting for centuries as you say, and you killed me in my last life, I don't feel terribly inclined to help you. Do you have a reason I should?"

Amar grinned. "Because we have her. We have the girl you're looking for. How do you call her? Reena?"
