Cerene Mauldyrie stood by the tall window in Bastopher's room, her rich blonde hair whipped against her gentle face as she gazed down at the courtyard below with anxious eyes.

She'd always adored the First Wing bastion, it was similar to her Wing's but with less noise — the noise of her incessant parents and the stares of the guards.

Her eyes continued to peer outside, even gazing out the gates as though she was awaiting something, or searching for it.

Her heart had been beating ever since she entered the bastion because of this. It has been five days now since she last saw him, and that is why she was here.

Under the guise of visiting Bastopher, Cerene had come to the First Wing bastion in search of Spheris. She had heard that Spheris had been in the bastion and had been attacked.
