I studied carefully the satellite pictures that showed different takes of a submarine.
"What's this, a soviet submarine?"
Agent Chang nodded. "Charles will explain," she said.
"Inspector, it's a submarine that Russia set up and sold to the Duke through a Turkish shipping company. It's only conditioned for transport and not combat. We believe this is the current location of the Duke, sir."
I flipped through the pictures again and noticed one of a ship of around 262 feet of length that looked like a fishing ship.
"And this ship?"
"It's actually a submarine tender, sir. The Russians employed this type of ships during the Cold War to replenish their submarines in the Pacific. Sometimes, they also served as a way to camouflage the submarines; the ships sailed on top of the submarines to conceal them from the visual search of the maritime and anti-submarine patrols aircrafts, and it even worked to trick radars, since the submarine and the ship showed up as only one trace in the radar."
"To the point, Charles!"
"We have information that proves this ship was sold to the same shadow corporation that bought the submarine, inspector, and that it's currently docked at the Italian coast. According to our sources, the ship is sporting a French flag and it asked for a fishing permit to the north- east of Sicily."
"I'm guessing then that the CIA is planning to board the ship, assume control and wait for the submarine to surface to take it by force."
"Well, it's a very interesting plan, but what's plan B, Agent Chang?"
"A group of combat ships from America and some allied countries will be waiting nearby, inspector. If we can't board the fishing ship, they're authorized to destroy the submarine."
"I see you thought of everything, agent."
