It was the wolf mask man.

It was hard to read his next actions with a mask hiding his expression.

Gene took on a defensive stance. "I never thought it would come to us fighting against each other like this. You're on the society's side, aren't you?"

The masked bartender shook his head. "We are not enemies."

"You're turning against Mr. White?"

"He must be stopped no matter what. His ambitions are getting too out of hand. We've both seen it together, how his little project slowly went down this path. Although we've never disclosed our opinions about it, I knew you were against it just as much as I was."

Gene looked at him in the eye before deciding to trust him a little.

"We need to retrieve the books. Will you help us?"

He shook his head. "I don't have much time. Soon, they'll find me and take me in once they realize it."

It suddenly hit me.

"The one who had the mind control ability. It was you, wasn't it?" I said.

The wolf mask man was amused. "That is correct."
