Chapter 69

"Beatrice?"

I smiled. "You alright?"

He stared blankly for a moment before his eyes suddenly widened. He quickly covered his face with his hands. He probably remembered what he did.

"Sorry. I feel terrible for doing that to you."

"Don't be."

He looked seriously guilty about it.

I didn't know what else to say, so we both stayed silent. At that point, I wasn't sure if our interaction would ever return to normal again. It felt a bit awkward being around him.

"Did you hate it?" he suddenly asked.

I paused to think. "Not really."

"Did...you like it then?"

I didn't answer. I was too embarrassed to answer.

"Sorry. You don't have to answer that."

Another awkward silence followed. I was getting more nervous as time passed.

What's with this situation!? How did it turn out like this?

Gene eventually stopped covering his face. "We can pretend this never happened, Beatrice. I'm really sorry. I wasn't myself when I did that."

I nodded.

"Is my head heavy?"

I shook my head.
