The Call

It has become my habit to spend time sitting on a park bench watching the people around me pass by, small children running around with their laughter, elderly couples walking hand in hand affectionately, young people who are intoxicated with love, street vendors, and others.

Since then, the song Christina Aguilera – "All I Need" has been playing on my Spotify playlist repeatedly. Actually, It's not my go-to song—I usually prefer listening to hardcore music, but this song takes me to a strange calm. Maybe because the tone effect is so soft, plus, Christina's voice is so alluring.

I felt a vibration from a flat object in my trouser pocket. With a lazy movement, I reached into my pants pocket and took out my cell phone, checking who was calling and interrupting my time contemplating in the park. Cleopatra's name was plastered on the display screen. The corner of my mind refused to take the call. The other corner forced me to pick up the call.

"What?" In the end, I chose the second option.

"Will you go to the hospital because Delvin is lying there?" I could hear Cleopatra's frantic tone when she said that.

I frowned in surprise, on the other hand, a little bit ignorant to hear the news. "What is wrong with him?"

"He was almost killed by someone. No further ado, Elsie. Come here."

Maybe for my family, Delvin who is known as a good boy, national football champion, to have an accident like that is a serious tragedy. Dad may muster his men to investigate who nearly killed Delvin. I think differently, the opposite. Behind us, Delvin was acting like a delinquent. Fighting or making a fuss is his hobby. If bruises were found on his face, he would have given the reason for the accident while playing football. So I guess Delvin's tragedy was just part of his hobby of fighting with people.

Even so, I still give a little sympathy to my brother. So I stepped away from the park bench, to the car and rushed to see how Delvin was. If there's no one in his infirmary, I'll beat him up. He deserves a lesson for his mask of hypocrisy.
