Ahh, it's pouring out! Looks like it's gonna be a quick trip to school and back!

Evening.

Yu, Nanako and I were watching the news.

"An Inaba Credit Union ATM to the north of town was destroyed by an earth mover, and all the cash inside was stolen. The vehicle, which was abandoned at the scene was reported stolen by a local contractor. Since the culprit was able to act quickly before the security guards arrived on the scene, the police have-"

Nanako's disappointed.

"Dad's late." She said

The phone rang and Nanako jumped up to get it.

"Hello dad? Yeah I'm ok. Yeah... yeah.... Okay. Alright. He said to give you the phone." She said as she handed it to me. "He can't take those days off."

She ran off to her room. Poor kid.

"Hello? Sorry but I'm going to be late tonight. Make sure you lock up before you go to sleep. And about that time off on the 4th and the 5th, one of the younger guys got sick. And well, the case he's handling, we can't just let it sit. Looks like I'm the only one who can take over for him." He said

"Poor Nanako." I said

"Sorry to spring this on you all of a sudden. How's Nanako holding up? Would you mind comforting her for me? Thanks. Alright then, see you."

I headed up to my room and studied, then went to sleep.

May 3

I headed downstairs to find Nanako at the table.

"Oh, morning." She said

The doorbell rang. I wonder who's here. It's Chie.

"Oh cool! You're home! Hey if you're free wanna go somewhere? Yukiko's coming too." Chie said. "How about you Nanako chan? Wanna come?"

"Yeah come with us." I said to her.

"Huh? I-I can come?" She asked

"Of course you can!" Chie said

Yu and I decided to take Nanako out with Chie and the others. The four of us headed to Junes.

Yosuke's still on the clock, and Yukiko just got off work.

"Why'd you bring poor Nanako chan to a place like this on Golden Week?" Yosuke asked

"Where else is there to go?" Chie asked

"I love Junes!" Nanako said. "... but we were supposed to go on a real trip somewhere. We were going to make boxed lunches."

"Wow! You can make boxed lunches Nanako chan?" Yukiko asked

Nanako shook her head.

"Oh so you guys are the family cooks? Pretty impressive "Big Bro"!" Chie said

"Big... bro." Nanako said

"Whoa you can cook? Well you do seem to be great with your hands, Uh Nevermind." Yosuke said

"I'm a pretty good cook too you know— probably." Chie said. "If you'd asked I would've whipped up some boxed lunches. Easy as pie! Yeah..."

"Let me think about- NO." Yosuke said said

"What makes you think I can't cook!? Let's have a cook off and see for ourselves." Chie said

"You do realize, that I would win. There would be no challenge. Cooking requires a lot of attention and multitasking, neither of which are a problem for me." I said to them.

"My my, doth the lady protest too much?  And hey I never said I cooked." Yosuke said. "But I have this weird feeling, like I'd win anyway."

"Ahaha, I can understand that." Yukiko said

"What the- Yukiko!?" Chie said

"Here, Nanako chan can be our judge." Yosuke said. "I bet we'll make something that rank's up there with your mom's cooking, Nanako chan!"

"I don't have a mom, she died in an accident." Nanako said

"Hey Yosuke." Chie said

"I-I see, um, sorry, I didn't know." Yosuke said

"It's ok." Nanako said. "Even if I don't have a mom, I have dad with me. And now I've got brother's too! And I'm having a lot of fun today! I love Junes."

"Y-yeah? That's good." Yosuke said

"We'll play with you anytime you want Nanako chan." Chie said

"Yeah, we should hang out more often." Yukiko said

"C'mon Nanako chan, let's go get a soda." Yosuke said

"Okay!" Nanako said

They went off to get a drink.

"She's a strong girl." Yukiko said

"Yeah, she makes me feel like I'm the little kid here." Chie said. "That's it! I'm gonna go get something for Nanako chan too!"

Yukiko and Chie headed off, and Nanako came back.

"Do you guys want something too?" She asked

There's a slight bond started to form between us.

We got up and walked to her.

"Wanna share some takoyaki?" She asked

After a long day of fun the three of us headed home.
