The two kept running but then found the same fog that brought them here to be trapping them here. They both tried pushing through the fog but an invisible barrier of sorts would keep them in.
"Do we have to find the reason they are sad? They don't look sad to me. It seems more like they can't be sad."
Xiaoyi looked around and saw 2 zombies coming for them. She quickly stepped in between them and Weiyuan.
She stood there with the rapier drawn in both hands. Her gaze was strong however the blade shook. Her arms were shaking and her body was shaking. It was cold enough for every breath to fog up the air, but that was not why she was shaking.
She was scared.
These are real monsters. Slimes are pets compared to these. Their hideous bodies of rotten flesh permeated a foul stench through the air as they grew closer.
Their groans made it easy for them to be remembered, even as she tried closing her eyes telling herself it was just a dream.
She got ready and made sure to keep an eye on both at the same time. Once one of them was close enough she closed her eyes and swung with all her might.
Weiyuan watched as her sword went from the left shoulder of the zombie down to the right hip. When it hit the hip it got stuck and didn't cut through it.
The zombie's upper body fell forward as it made one last ditch effort to attack the human in front of it. Its arm was met with the same blade that cut it. The hand hit the flat side of the rapier not causing any damage but preventing the attack from reaching her.
She then moved on to the next one. She knew stabbing wouldn't work on them so from now on she would slash. When the zombie lunged to her she slashed the arm off, and followed with another slash to the neck.
Her moves were far from smooth and efficient but against zombies who had no regard for their own lives she was superior.
"I don't think I will make it. My health just dropped by 1. I think I'm getting infected." Weiyuan said while clutching his arm.
"Don't say that. It could just be blood loss. Let's go find who forgot about them and get out." Xiaoyi said with tears filling her eyes.
Weiyuan got up with the back still on his back and followed after her. They hugged the left of the fog wall and started to circle the village.
Every minute a zombie would approach them and Xiaoyi would take care of them. She ended up leveling up twice during this.
As they circled the village Xiaoyi remembered having her wounds heal the night she leveled up.
"Weiyuan, did you level up from killing the zombie?"
"No I didnt. Why do you ask?"
"If my suspicion is correct that we heal our wounds faster after a level up then you can live as long as you level up. So when we get to the next zombie try to help so you can level up."
"Okay, I'll do my best." He replied with a weak smile.
When they got to the other side of the village they noticed a group of zombies in a circle around a pair of graves. There was a giant dead tree planted near the graves giving it a more spooky look.
"I think that is the place. There are a lot of them. Can you help me?" Xiaoyi asked while looking at Weiyuan with sad eyes.
"I can but not with this on."
Once he took off the bag they slowly crept forward to the zombies. The group had 6 zombies with a couple more wandering around.
As they got closer they heard the zombies speaking.
"You abandoned us." "She wanted you to leave us." "She always hated our village."
Xiaoyi gulped nervously and looked at Weiyuan. She leaned over to his ear.
"I don't think these are normal zombies. I'm going to use my points before we go in. System."
The sage green translucent box appeared before her showing that she had 4 points she could distribute.
She thought for a moment on how easy it was to cut through the zombies already, so she decided to use 2 points for agility. She put one in intelligence and one in magic for future strength building.

"Alright I am ready." She said while walking closer.
The zombies' voices stopped as she got closer and they all turned to her.
"You made him leave us!" "It's all your fault." "You made us this way." "You were always so greedy." "Why couldn't you share your time with him with us?" "Just because you died doesn't mean we had to!"
With that they all started running to her. They were far more active than the other zombies. Even their attacks seemed a little smarter. While the 6 main ones went after her the 2 wonderers went after him.
He was easily able to overcome both of them as they came 1 at a time. However, Weiyuan couldn't sit around. He saw Xiaoyi get pushed back and was essentially running backwards trying to dodge all of their attacks.
When they first started attacking Xiaoyi she could dodge them easily as they were attacking one at a time. When that didn't work and one of their allies' heads were cut off they changed it up.
The five that remain now attack back to back almost at the same time. One of them split off from the group trying to flank her, however Weiyuan got them from behind.
This surprised the others and allowed Xiaoyi an opening to take another one.
They did not want to lose so they split up. One on Weiyuan to keep him busy while the other two get the girl.
"You left us for her! How could you not choose us?" It said to him.
Now that he didn't get to surprise it the battle was tougher.
He was able to dodge pretty well however he was unable to land a hit while using his left arm. This battle will be decided by whoever messes up first.
The two moved around the graveyard until the zombie tripped on a gravestone giving him a great opportunity. Upon slashing it he got a notification that he had leveled up.
He did feel better but knew that he was not going to heal if he kept moving around so much.
With two of them on her she knew she had a much better chance than when there were 5.
The two tag teamed by lungeing in, dodging her attack then having the other attack. This was a very effective tactic as she did not have enough experience to know what a faint was and what wasn't.
After a few repeated attacks she swung her sword and cut one of their torsos in half causing rotten flesh chunks to fly away.
"Ah." She looked down to see a long deep scratch across her stomach with blood just pouring out.
