The Ones Who Survive the Hangar Ambush

Lee could see the bullet wound on the side of Leta's neck. She had bled out in the tent, a single hole in the ceiling of the fabric. Schmidt knelt there crying as he held onto the inhaler with his life. Lee pulled his friend up as they needed to get back to the barricades and save Colton. When they both got to their feet, Lee saw him first. An icy shiver snaked down his back and his heartbeat quickened.

Rodney Mavers stood there holding a single handgun.

"I didn't mean to kill her," he muttered. "I thought she was a Guard."

"You joined the Piners?" Lee asked. "How could you do such a thing?"

"It's because of me, isn't it?" Schmidt said.

Mavers nodded. "After what I did...It ruined my life."

"You deserved it," Lee said. "Not only were you a terrible Boss, but you hurt minors. You beat up, Schmidt."
