Chapter 7: Mysterious Killer

Human's Side: Klay Panthor's POV

My goodness, Wyourld City is amazing!

As I entered the city, what filled my eyes were the lights of the beacon that can be seen all around the place. People are gathered, and every type of worker is here. I see merchants, traders, miners, and even adventurers!

The city is full of color and life. The structures are also designed beautifully; just looking at the walls, you can tell they can withstand a huge earthquake.

Spellcasters are also all over the place, spreading their magic and giving the city life. Their words are becoming more than speech; their words are becoming life itself.

As I wonder around, admiring the place. I set my eyes on a guildhall.

I went inside, and the place is filled with noise. The cheerful energy and atmosphere can be felt all over the place.

I went up and talked to the waitress at the counter.

"Good day, young man, how may I help you?" A woman in her twenties asked me. She has brown hair and is looking neat despite all the ruckus in the hall.

"I would like to register as an adventurer," I said.

"It seems like we have a newbie here." The woman bent over the counter and took something from one of the cabinets. She gave me a paper for registration and a pen.

"I'm Reni, pleased to meet you. Please write your information and give it to me once it's done."

I gave her the nod and went to a table. While looking at the paper, it's just a normal registration form. When I decided to fill it up, I suddenly remembered that I couldn't use my real name or that my dad would find me quickly.

Knowing that, I decided to make a different alias and submit the paper.

"Okay, Christ Skylar. You're one step away from being an adventurer. Please put your hand on this crystal ball here."

Yes, I now go by Christ Skylar. In the meantime, I followed Reni's instructions and put my hand above the crystal. It's not like the crystal my dad used at the class gifting ceremony. It's different; it's a crystal that recognizes your mana and registers it into the information of the guild.

"Thank you for your cooperation. Here's your badge representing your current rank."

She gave me a bronze badge, representing that I'm a novice.

This is the ranking of the guild:

Legendary: Gold

Epic: Violet

Master: White

Seasoned: Red

Skilled: Blue

Adept: Green

Journeyman: Silver

Novice: Brown

"To be promoted, you have to do a certain number of tasks to level up; the other way is to finish a quest above your rank to quickly increase your rank. We don't recommend the second way because many adventurers die due to stubbornness. Please don't try to attempt the other choice," Reni explained.

She pointed at the bulletin board where the papers for quests are hung up.

"There you find a quest; pick one and proceed to this counter for confirmation. If we think that such a quest is beyond your ability, I'm afraid we'll have to decline your request," Reni added.

Tsk. Here, I was planning to become legendary as soon as possible.

I smiled and thanked Reni for her assistance. I went to the bulletin board and gathered all the tasks for novices. Going back to the counter, Reni gathers her thoughts on the mountain of paper I just put in front of her.

I smiled and told her I'd finish all of this before dark. Thankfully, she approved.

Doing the tasks one after another is easy enough; I finished all of the tasks I took by noon.

The tasks are just running errands, making good deeds for someone, helping an old lady, or finding a missing cat.

When I got back to the guild hall, Reni had no choice but to promote me quickly as a Journeyman; she gave me a silver badge representing my promotion.

The quests for journeyman rank are similar to the quests we did for the class gifting ceremony, the real quest. Not the disaster one.

Here are some examples of journeyman quests:

• Hunt down five wolves.

• Eliminate 15 slimes.

• Slay five goblins.

• Hunt down 15 rabbits.

• Gather mine stones.

In short, not too easy and not too hard quests.

I decided to take a rest and go on another quest tomorrow.

Looking for a place to sleep, I found this inn where the keepers have a good and bright attitude. I stayed for the night and also had dinner.

The next morning, I made my way to the guild hall. Adventurers are gathered at the bulletin board, looking at the poster.

On the poster, there is a drawing of a dark forest. During the night, many adults and children have gone missing due to unknown reasons.

The required adventurers for this are skilled and above.

I went close to the bulletin board and tried to have a close look at it. Before I touched the poster, a blade suddenly pierced through the paper. Stopping me from touching it.

"Yo, yo, yo, aren't you too young for this, you little brat?" A huge woman wearing a red crop top and jeans shorts approached me.

"So—sorry, I just wanted to take a look at the quest," I muttered.

She looked at my chest and saw my silver badge. She laughed and smiled at me.

"Sorry, kid, this quest has too high of a requirement," she said.

"Oh, no worries, I apologize." I bowed my head.

Behind her were two huge men.

"Big sis, who's this?" one of the guys asked.

"Who knows?" replied the girl, and she closed her face to mine.

"Who are you?" She asked.

Hiding my embarrassment, I told her my fake name.

"Christ Skylar."

"Well, Christ, tomorrow join us for a meal. My treat, then I'll help you rank up. Alright?" The woman said.

The two huge dudes in the back gave a nod, giving a sign of approval. I smiled, and they went their way to the counter.

Before they went, I called them out.

"Hey, um, what's your name?" I asked.

The girl smiled and gave me her name.

"Merry, Merry Klorus. These two are Kroy and Kray. They're my brothers."

I waved goodbye and nodded. I'm looking forward to that meal she promised.

At night, the three, Merry, Kroy, and Kray, head to the dark forest to investigate the unknown cause of the latest missing incidents.

"You two, stay alert," Merry reminded the two behind her.

They went deep into the forest. Until they saw a cave with bones inside of it. Human bones, without any flesh remaining.

"We found its hideout; this might be worse than we thought," Merry explained.

"Big sister!" Kroy pushed Merry and took the damage that was meant for her.

Kroy's body got wounded, and blood was scattered on the floor. Kroy stood with all his might, holding his sword firmly.

Ahead of them is the one who's most likely the cause of these incidents. With an intimidating aura, the three have no choice but to face it head-on.

Kray went forward to protect the two and rushed in to attack the one who caused it. But to no avail. The monster stroked Kray's chest, taking his life instantly.

"Run! Big sister! Leave me here! Give the information to the guild!" Kroy desperately screamed.

Without hesitation, Merry got up from her knees and ran as fast as she could.

But to no avail.

The monster killed Kroy without batting an eye. Immediately following Merry and stopping her from her tracks. She stepped on her back, putting her on the ground.

Slowly and painfully, it ripped her body apart.
