Chapter 12: Mysterious Outcome

Receiving moonlight from the sky, the sight of a furry figure can be seen. Staring right at us is the werewolf who's been doing all the killing here in the dark forest.

We finally have the opportunity in front of us. To make the cause of our anguish feeling disappear. However, from my point of view, I only see a comrade suffering from her pain.

The adventurers rushed to the werewolf, initiating an attack. The werewolf made a stance, crossing its arms in front of her.

"Wait! She's going to attack!" I screamed.

My efforts have been wasted, but the adventurers still continue to rush straight to her to land their melee attack.

The werewolf let out a scream of anger and started to unleash the power it manifested in her arms.

Without hesitation, I quickly dashed to the front of the adventurers and took the attack.

"Kroleid!" I let out a scream.

It's a defense magic that many magicians use to cast a barrier to protect their comrades from danger.

While I'm busy taking the attack, I turn around. Looking in the adventurer's direction, I asked for a favor.

"Let me be the one to fight her! She's my comrade! Let me take responsibility! If something happens and for some reason I lose, then back me up!" I requested.

The adventurers looked at each other, looking for someone to answer my request. One of them nodded and gave approval to my actions.

"We leave her to you," one of the adventurers said with a smile on his face.

I smiled, grateful for the opportunity they gave me. I turned around and looked at Neerial in her werewolf form.

"It seems like I can only use mage skills to avoid any weird ideas," I whispered to myself.

I looked straight forward and looked into Neerial's eyes.

"I'll take care of you."

As soon as I let out those words, I cast a spell, blowing her away. My spell caught her off guard, and now she's in the air with nowhere to go.

I faced my palm and aimed it at her. Casting a spell that will hit her directly.

"Blaze Dynamite!"

A blast has exploded in her direction, causing direct damage. However, once the smoke disappeared, she's covering her face with her arms; she withstands the fire spell that I cast.

She landed safely on the ground with her feet. I'm at the tip of the cliff, staring down at her.

This is like the first time we faced each other; it's also similar to how we first met. I'm always on the upper side of her view, and she's on the lower side of my view.

I put out my book and summoned a magic staff to boost my damage. I jumped onto the cliff and landed safely on the ground.

Neerial and I stand on the same level of ground now, looking into each other's eyes. Both of us are on guard, waiting for the other side to make their move.

In an instant, both of us moved at the same time; she rushed forward and I rushed backwards. I've put my hands on the top of the magic staff and started casting a spell.

"Klomore Inginition!"

I cast a spell that placed fire sprouts on the ground; the fire sprouted one by one, aiming to hit Neerial.

However, Neerial quickly dashed sideways, dodging my attack flawlessly. Neerial reached my destination with her right claw. Aiming straight to my head, a fire has suddenly blasted out from the ground. Hitting Neerial straight on, she got sent to the air again.

Neerial stayed cautious and did a back flip. Turning in my direction and making a boost on the air. At high highspeed she got closer to me once again.

Getting caught off guard, I used my magic staff as a shield, and she pushed me onto the ground.

I'm currently on the ground holding the magic staff to ward off Neerial. She's on top of me with her wide, open mouth. Her claws are on the magic staff, trying to push it into my neck.

Out of desperation, I opened my left hand and cast a spell.

"Meteor Strike!"

I cast a spell that came from the sky, falling directly at us. It's a high-level spell, and a strong one at that. Both of us have suffered damage from it. However, thanks to my tank class, I used protection that would protect me from the blast.

Neerial's weak state became sluggish; I kicked her away, and she fell to the ground. I slowly stood up, ignoring the pain in my body. I walked towards Neerial and pointed my magic staff at her.

She got up, looking at me with anger and growling from her mouth. Pointing the magic staff at her, I delivered the final blow.

"Blast Dynamite."

A strong blast of fire had been launched at short range, leaving her unconscious, and she slowly turned back to her human form.

Her clothes are all ripped off from the damage I gave her. I took out my cloak and covered her with it.

A clapping crowd approaches us, coming from the dark with smiles on their faces. It's the adventurers who came with us.

"That's a good show, Skylar. But sadly, all of this must come to an end. Now hand the girl over." Kleigh, who talked to me earlier this day, gave me an order while holding a dagger in his hands.

"And why should I do that?" I replied, while holding Neerial tightly in my arms.

"To protect your reputation, of course! She's the cause of all the incidents in this dark forest. Now, didn't she? So just hand her over, and this case will be closed. Now, what do you say?" Kleigh, with his almighty tone, gave me an explanation.

I looked at Neerial, all bruised from the attack on which I gave her. Giving her to this guy will sure lessen my problem.

Turning around, I looked at Kleigh and asked him a question.

"Are you the strongest one here?"

"Indeed, I am! I'm a Seasoned Ranked adventurer with a level of 78! So just follow my orders, and I'll be the one who'll take care of you," Kleigh replied with an exaggerated smile on his face.

I looked at the other adventurers, and all of them seemed satisfied, nodding at Kleigh's words.

Due to their noises, Neerial slowly opened her eyes. Waking from her exhaustion

"Christ? Why are you?" Neerial spoke, but couldn't finish her words.

"Neerial, remember the words I said to you?" I asked.

"Words?" Neerial, filled with confusion, repented my words.

"I won't let you die."

I put Neerial gently on the ground and stood up. I put out my book and let it float in the air. Making a stance that you are ready to fight

"Oh, what's this? Are you rebelling against the guild? Christ Skylar?!" Kleigh shouted.

I closed my eyes and remembered the conversation I had with Karma.

"Did you forget how our comrades died? How can you talk so nonchalantly about getting stronger when lives are being traded just to acquire ridiculous power?"

I grabbed his hand and forced him to let go of me. I then kicked his gut, sending him flying towards his bed. I stood firmly and said these words.

"Then all we have to do is protect our comrades and be stronger so that nobody else dies."

Sorry, Karma, I know this is not the ideal way. But I want to be true to my word, protecting the allies that I made, whatever race they might have.

"Neerial."

Knowing Neerial was listening to my words, I didn't even bother to turn around.

"No matter what, you'll always be my ally."

The adventurers pulled out all of their weapons, and some adventurers summoned their monster.

"You do know that killing us yourself will leave a mark that we were killed by an adventurer, right?" Kleigh replied.

He's got a point; even if I successfully eradicate them, all the tracks that I will leave behind will prove that it was me.

"So, all I have to do is make something else do it."

Adventurers on high alert watched and observed my actions. I put my hands into the ground, making a summoning circle appear in the area.

"A summoning circle?" Kleigh, surprised by my actions, wondered.

"I hereby summon Level 100: Banshee!"

After finishing my summoning, three banshees have appeared in the area. A white figure with the look of a ghost leaves the adventurers down to their knees due to fear.

A banshee is a spirit that foretells death. It can lure people to their doom with its haunting cries, causing them to vanish mysteriously.

Which is a perfect creature to satisfy the guild hall in this case. Sadly, all these adventurers will have to die for Neerial's sake.

"I'm not a good person, but I am a good friend. I'll do anything to keep them safe, even killing if I must!"

I said these words prepared for the outcome that will soon lead me into darkness.
