Chapter 40: Nothing

KEN 'S POV -

I headed to the dining hall to get some breakfast - in - bed for Samarah so that people wouldn't be too suspicious of her absence. After all no one could know that she was not here.

I stumbled on Samarah behind a pillar en route to the dining hall. "You hiding someone over here.", she snapped her head in my direction. Nervousness was written all over her face as she just eyed me suspiciously before huffing last me. And the day keeps getting weirder

SAMARAH 'S POV -

I froze like a deer in headlights when Miranda entered the dining hall. The vampire king quickly retracted his hand back as my face promptly flushed. Just to make the situation more awkward, Miranda had to dramatically rub her eyes. I couldn't even glance at her direction.

I knew how it must have appeared to her but it really was a case of it's not how it looks like. I normally would have shoved him off when he got to my neck but somehow I wasn't able to. It was like my being invited his touch but not in the way it did to Damon's.

This was far more different. I was left alone with my jumbled thoughts when Miranda left grumpily quickly followed by him. Guess all of this was weird for him too.

I sat in my chair fiddling with the spoon and empty bowl thinking about how my mother had warned me all those years ago about him. But how come I felt calm and peaceful whenever he was near me instead of the fear that she had grown in me for him for years. How would Damon feel when he became aware of this?

Although,it wasn't like as if I was cheating on him. I was broken out of my thoughts when Ken entered the room. Grabbing a bowl of cut up fruits and yoghurt he announced," Just gonna grab a late brunch or early lunch for doll." My eyebrows furrowed at this. Lunch?

For how long was I sitting here?

I just stared at him absentmindedly heading straight to the room, praying that I do not meet him in the way. Once entering my room, I locked my door and bolted towards my bed. I had to clear this out with Miranda. I couldn't leave her without answers. After all, she has always been more like my family to me than my own mother even was.

Painful memories of being whipped for not training flashed across my mind. Her terrifying figure still haunts my memories. It had left all of that behind for good, a few moments back after she had pulled the last straw she had asked my head up snapping myself out of all those memories. With a newfound determination, I trudged over to my door to explain the scene she had witnessed.

Upon opening the door, I walked face first into a mass of muscles. I looked up to find the familiar ash skinned king. I quickly stepped back stuttering, "What were you doing outside my door?", With an annoyed look, he replied," Coming to you duh! Before you decide to lean yourself on me." I found myself flustered again before demanding," What is it then?", a long pause." Speak up."

Silence is all I was met with as he stared at me. Suddenly my face began to heat up as I attempted to get away from him saying," If that's all then I am gonna go now. Unlike you, I have important things to do." I bit my lower lip at the last sentence as he just stared harder at me. I attempted to side step him but instead ended up tripping on the carpet, losing my balance. I waited for the feel of the hard floor but against felt a soft grip under the nape of my neck forcing me up.

I opened my eyes again to face the now familiar yet unknown king and an unreadably soft expression on his face. "Are you ok?", he asked softly which caught me off guard as I bobbed my head up and down. Then the familiar feeling of calm spread through my being starting from his touch on my shoulder.

His voice almost a whisper, he asked, " Are you really her?" My mind screamed at me illogically to agree but instead I kept mum as I had no idea about what he was even referring to. Instead I asked him," Hey quit the pheromone thing, will you? I know you can do it now. You don't need to do it everytime you see me." He cocked his head sideways before whispering," But I never even used it in the first place. If I did you would writhing in pain since it is used to assert dominance." Before I could say anything more, a sharp sound of an object falling to the ground was heard. The both of us whispered our heads to the source of the sound but found no one in earshot. " I will come later.... at night probably. I have to tell you something... important. Keep the door to your room unlocked.", the owner of the now gruff voice quickly left my sight leaving my mouth agape.

MIRANDA 'S POV -

After spending some alone time in my room and recollecting my thoughts, I resolved to confront Samarah head on with my questions before painting any scenario forming any theory about the whole situation. With the newfound resolve, I headed over to Samarah's room but froze in my tracks when I saw the family figure of the dark king about 25 feet away from me.

I could also make out another silhouette beging him of a girl's. Probably Samarah's. I made a dash for attempting to hide myself at a nearby corner. I felt like I had stumbled on something I wasn't supposed to see.

Although I still wanted to figure out what was going on; I didn't want to die doing it. After all the old bat had threatened me himself. Even though I was supposed to be his God, I doubt I could prove it to him or even subdue him by being unaware ot the complete extent of my powers.

Unfortunately, faith must want to end right now as I crashed into a vase of black roses, toppling it over. Not long after, I felt hands pin me facing to the wall, grabbing my hands behind me as the recently familiar voice dangerously hissed," Do you really not value your life?" " Even you would value it if only you knew.", the words rolled off my to gue due to large ego as I got the urges to facepalm hard. His breath hitched as he asked," What? What do you mean?"

"Nothing." ,I grimly murmered.
