The Oak Bride

" The Snow Dom sent a letter" He continued. He picked up a letter from his bedside table and handed it to me, I took it and opened it slowly wondering what it's content might be. "No!" I uttered firmly as I read through it. "No Father, I do not want this" I said again shaking my head from side to side. She's the oak princess soon to be a bride, but would she give in to the requests of her father?

Chapter 8: What am I?

I slouched against my door because I felt really weak after the ordeal I just went through.

"What just happened?", I thought desperately, trying to piece everything together.

I got to my feet and wobbled a bit then walked steadily to my bed and fell face down on it, blacking out completely.

"Please wake up", I heard a voice calling to me. I tried opening my eyelids but they felt heavy as I tried prying them apart, my vision blurry, I tried making out whose head obstructed my view.

"Wake up princess, it's late and you need to eat", The voice said again.

"Uhummm", I groaned turning away and rubbing my eyes open.

"Come here, let me help you"

I felt my hands being drawn towards the side of my bed, making my whole body turn to that direction that I had to sit upright to be comfortable.

I tried sitting and felt soup being spooned into my mouth. I parted my lips and felt hot liquid burn down my throat, it stirred me awake more and I realized how hungry I was.

"Give it to me", I ordered and the maid transferred the bowl of soup to my hands, I gulped it down and felt energy seeping into every nerve of my body. I felt revived.

"Are you Okay Princess?", She asked worriedly. "You don't seem good, I got scared a bit when I got in and you didn't stir" She continued.

"I'm fine Mary" I said smiling hard. "I was just weak, maybe it was the heat of the sun when I was at the garden earlier today"

She seemed to be satisfied with that answer and agreed to that too.

I finished and she went out with the bowl, leaving me to my thoughts as I remembered what happened before I blacked out and wondered how what went down did.

I racked my brain trying to remember when something similar happened when I was younger.

"Gwen?, Gwenn??" I felt myself being tapped incessantly and my name called repeatedly also.

"Mum?", I asked coming out of my reverie.

"Oh my goodness Gwen", She said aloud close to tears, "You scared me" She said again drawing me into her tight embrace.

I burst in tears, crying and bawling out loud as I held tightly to her blouse.

"What's wrong baby?",

"Talk to mummy please, I'm listening", Mother said, worried lines etched deeply on her forehead as she hugged me tightly and patted my back to calm me down.

"Mum bunny is dead" I cried out.

Bunny was my pet rabbit, a female white rabbit with long ears and I do tie blue ribbons around her head, she looked so cute when I do that.

"No no love, bunny's not dead, no she isn't, she's there right now", She said all these quickly while holding unto my head and looking into my eyes trying to clean my face of tears as she pointed to the direction where bunny stood, she had her nose in the air as it twitched repeatedly.

"But mummy, I saw her and she wasn't moving", I said surprised she's now moving, already hopping away from us.

"Oh Gwen, it was a dream, a bad dream and what do you do when you have a bad dream?", She asked boring holes into me.

"I think of something really funny that makes me happy that can drive any fear away because bad dreams don't come true, only good ones do", I said reciting what she taught me since I could talk.

"Good girl", She said hugging me tightly once more.

Bunny died that evening, she got mashed by a rider's carriage wheel. She managed to get under and it went over her, crushing her small frame and killing her instantly. I cried my eyes out and nothing mother said made things better.

The rider bought me a new white rabbit but it just wasn't bunny and I grew over it after sometime. I also forgot about bunny but still hurt a little whenever I remember her body mashed and her skin no longer white but mixed with blood red giving a pinkish mixture.

I walked towards my room and heard my parents having a discussion, I swore never to evesdrop but I couldn't resist it when I heard my name being called.

"What do you think Perce", Mother said sounding worried.

"I don't think it's anything to worry about dear", Father said his hands around mother, while her head rested on his shoulder blade.

"I know Gwena is fine, she's a special child but it was just a dream, a coincidence, we shouldn't worry yet until it happens again ok?", He said while his hand patted her back. "Okay", She murmured quietly with her eyes closed.

I tiptoed away from their half opened door back to my room and went to bed. I'm normal, there's nothing wrong with me, I said this over and over till I got drawn into the clutches of sleep.

These memories flashed through my mind in a second, I sat wondering if that's what just happened. It hasn't happened again after that day long ago, I didn't even have flashes of how mother would die although it was because she got really sick.

"What does this mean?, Is it a gift? A power? A curse?", I questioned myself.

"What am I? Am I human? A witch? A seer?", I continued.

I sighed aloud and laid back on the head of my bed with my legs drawn up, my hands on my head raking my hair trying to think what'd happen next.

"Did the snow prince manage to get a glimpse of me?", I almost panicked

Wow didn't really think I'd be able to write this today but just felt I should since I'm free.

What do you think the princess is?
