Bad things come in pairs

In the boundless universe there are countless galaxies and an even bigger number of stars within or outside these said galaxies. And almost every star on average has a planet that revolves around them.

Most of these planets are barren with no condition to evolve intelligent life within them but every now and then a small number of these planets do evolve intelligent life. Enabling the birth of countless intelligent life forms.

And where there are intelligent life forms there are stories. An impressive number of stories are told on a daily basis across these planets. You would be surprised by what the imagination of intelligent life forms is capable of.

Ohh who am I you ask?

Well my name is..... It appears that I have forgotten my name but people know me simply as the 'Story collector'.

As the name implies I collect stories. It doesn't matter what kind of story it is, I collect them all in my handbook.

In this handbook I have written all kind of stories about gods, heroes, villains, and even about ordinary people.

As time went on I started to get bored. So I begun telling these stories from my handbook.

This way I can keep myself entertained.

Today's story comes from a galaxy named the 'Milky Way'. Inside the Milky Way there is a planet called earth. I know a weird name for a planet but I wasn't the one who named it.

Anyway what made this planet special is that for some unexplainable reason inside this planet exist an extremely powerful magic artifact.

This weird artifacts enables the souls of the person who holds this magic artifact to pass from this universe in another universe altogether.

Quite a bizarre artifact. And taking into account that this planet doesn't have magic, something like this shouldn't have appeared at all.

And it is because of the low mana density or 'dark matter' as some of the people on these planets have started calling it, that this magic artifact doesn't run on full power.

So only about one or two souls every 2 thousand years get to have a one way trip to another universe.

The story I am about to tell you is about one one of these 'lucky' souls. I even hear that he played quite an important role on the universe that he got send.

"Yeah I am fine thanks for asking... Talk to you later mom. I am hanging up right now"

Wth a heavy sigh a Seth finished his conversion with his mom. He was having a rough day, today and the rainfall was making it even worse for him.The rain splashed into his hair and clothes drenching him wet.

If this had been a normal day he would have started running to find a shelter to avoid the rain while cursing his luck. But today wasn't a normal day. He didn't care if he got wet at all.

A few hours earlier he got the worst news that a man can possibly get. He was diagnosed with brain tumor.

According to the doctors he had around one year to live but it could also be extended up to 5 years with the right treatment and luck.

Still this news didn't change the fact that within five years or one year without the treatment he would die.

It's funny when you think about it. Humans know that some day they will die yet they don't take it seriously. They work and plan things as if they are immortals.

Now all of a sudden his world had crumbled and turned to dust in a matter of moments. Everything Seth had worked for, every bit of fortune he had gathered lost it's meaning. The once colorful world turned into a dark one.

The rain begun pouring even harder then before. Seth could feel the sensation of the rain drops clashing with his skin. Somehow it remained him of being alive.

"Who would have thought that the rain could be such a pleasant thing"

As Seth continued to aimlessly walk down the street he begun thinking on what to do next.

Actually part of him was still hoping that this was all but a bad dream. Or maybe the doctor had made a mistake and he would call Seth to apologize. Nothing of that sort happened of course. That was just wishful thinking on his part.

"I will have to tell my family about this and most likely even do a trip to see them one last time. I wonder how what their reaction will be?"

Seth's only relatives were his parents. He had no other siblings or any other relatives that he was close to.

Seth's parents lived on another city just fifty kilometers away. So it couldn't be called a trip more like a short drive. But it sounded like a great distance to the current Seth.

He had no idea on how to tell them or how they will react to the news but Seth knew that they had the right to know it.

Absentminded and oblivious to his surroundings Seth went down the street when all of sudden he felt weightless. The world was spinning around. He couldn't make sense of what it was happening to him.

A big crashing sound came to his ears and then his vision was finally stabilized. Seth saw the back lights of a car and a mans feet were approaching him.

The screaming voice of a women come to his ears along with a mans voice calling for the ambulance and saying to him that he would be alright. Seth finally understood what happened to him. He had been hit by a car.

'Shit, it looks like dying in 5 years wasn't good enough for God so he decided to speed things up?'

Seth thought to himself. As pain hit him and his vision grew darker and darker by the second, he saw a ring that was placed in his hand by the man close to him.

He also said some words but Seth didn't understood them properly. Maybe he thought that the ring would somehow bring him luck or maybe it was for superstition reasons. Either way Seth didn't care.

But the ring it self was strange though. It was of silver colour and along it there were words written in some language Seth didn't understand. On top of the ring there was a human skull and below it were written the words.
