Do not possess me

*************************

Preparations for the temple's skill competition started, some students looked forward to that day while other students dreaded that day.

It was a day you could make your own rules without being stopped. You could choose to fight until the sight of blood or fight until death.

The King of Melech Kingdom himself will witness this event.

Ezekiel met Xavier and Emily at the empty but spacious abandoned hall, she was still trying to train Xavier.

"How's training going?" Zeke asked taking a seat.

"Bad, the competition is tomorrow and Xavier's skills are still lagging. At this rate, he won't be able to beat Carigan and he might end up dead in the process." Emily said, running her fingers through her hair.

"Oh come on, Blondy is no match for us," Zavian said in Xavier's head but was ignored. Xavier didn't want his friends to think he was going insane, suspicions from Zeke were enough, and he did not want Emily to think he had gone crazy too.

"It's insulting to be ignored!" Zavian said again and Xavier rolled his eyes. For someone who was an ancient and powerful demon, he sure knew how to throw tantrums like a child. What kind of demon was this emotional?

"You, who are you sparing with?" Emily asked Zeke.

"I think I'm gonna sit this one out, I have enough respect and honor and I kind of like it here too. So I don't need freedom." Zeke said with confidence.

"What if you're chosen by someone?" She asked again.

"Then I'll give them what he/she wants," Zeke said with a smirk.

"So, I can choose not to fight and just sit back and watch?" Xavier asked, he was thinking of doing just that.

"Not for you, Carigan has made up his mind on choosing you, and you're also a foreigner, If you refuse to spar with him, your kingdom will become a laughing stock, it will be insulted and humiliated," Emily said. He knew she was right, if he refused Carigan's call to fight him, not only him but his kingdom would become a dupe.

"Why are you thinking so much, You're a demon now, just allow me to take over and I will rip his heart right out of his ribcage," Zavian said Xavier could hear the bloodlust emanating from his voice. Zavian was indeed a demon, all they ever thought about was death.

"Okay, I won't sit back, I would fight Carigan," Xavier said to Emily, with determination burning in his eyes. He was going to make Carigan bleed without the help of no one.

The next day

Ezekiel and Xavier were both getting prepared for the competition, they were clothed in black ninja-like outfits, with their swords dangling on their waist.

Xavier packed his long dark hair in a ponytail and then wore black boots, they were light and wouldn't hinder his movement. He stared in the mirror and took a deep breath, This was going to be his first real fight for honor and he hoped to hell he wasn't going to mess it up.

"Let me take over." He heard Zavian say.

"No, do not possess me, no matter what happens," Xavier said sternly.

"Okay, but make sure we don't get beaten or killed," Zavian replied and then went quiet. Xavier turned and met Zeke's judging gaze that held a glint of pity.

"What?" Xavier asked.

"Nothing, nothing at all," Zeke said as he shook his head, He was in no mood for Xavier's demon nonsense and red-eyed prank.

"Let's go, we're in front roll," Zeke said, They both left the boy's dome and headed to the spacious field, where the competition would take place.

They met other students dressed in red ninja-like attire, including Emily and Carigan, at first, they were both shocked to see Emily on a different team since they expected her to be on their side.

The red and black colors were diverse teams, everyone clothed in black uniform was a team and was not obligated to spar with their teammate, likewise those dressed in red uniform.

Emily glanced at them and met with their piercing gazes, that felt betrayed, she quickly turned away and let herself be dragged by Carigan, who held her hand in his.

"I can't believe she did what she did!" Zeke said in disbelief, that he did not expect Emily to go for the red team even after she gave Xavier training sessions. Xavier was silent and just stared at the two departing back.

"Should I kill them?" Zavian asked.

"No!" Xavier said.

"No what?" Zeke asked.

"Uhm...no, I can't believe she betrayed us," Xavier said trying to cover up.

"Let's get going, We should get there before the audience," Zeke said giving him a pat on the back.

The two teams stood in line, The red uniform team was called the Scorpions and the Black uniform was called the Underdogs team.

They signed to approve their presence and then went to their respective seats. not far from the arena and opposite each other.

One of the teachers acknowledged the guests including the King of Melech kingdom, King Heron who was grinning like a cat, One could tell he thought highly of his son and expected him to win the battle.

The crown prince of Cranes Kingdom Prince Nathan, Xavier's eldest brother along with General K was also at the event, The gaze from his eldest brother gave Xavier goosebumps, he knew his brother expected him to win at all costs and disappointing his brother would mean disappointing his Father King Aaron, Since Nathan and the General were his eyes and ears.

Xavier took a deep breath, assuring himself he could take Carigan without help from anyone, including Zavian.
