Aftermath

Three days have passed since the dungeon incident. Turns out, I fainted when I got teleported after shouting for help and was rushed to a hospital along with my party members. I just woke up on my bed and am now feeling great. The others woke up two days earlier than me, and continued doing quests a day later. Luckily they didn't have serious injuries.

My friends also leveled up from the fight, due to us being in a party after all. We plan to go buy some new equipment later since our old sets are worn out after they took a beating from the wolves and bears we encountered.

"How're you feeling?" asked Marie.

"I've felt better, but I'm fine I guess."

"I'm sorry we couldn't have been of any help to you."

"It's fine. At least we all survived."

"About that, how were you able to beat the bears? If we couldn't beat it as a party, how were you able to? We did get experience from it after all."

They noticed. I should be more careful about things like this. Although I guess I could trust Marie, I'll tell her about it later. If people find out about my ability, my life will be in a lot more danger.

"Ah, that's a secret."

Obviously I can't tell them about it willy-nilly. I have to think about the consequences it'll bring them and such. I mean, this is an overpowered skill we're talking about.

Speaking of the skill, although overpowered, it has con to it. I have to be on the verge of death before being able to activate it. I'm very happy though that it's very overpowered, and whenever we're in danger or the skill system this world has identifies us as 'in danger', I can use it to help myself. I might even gain. few levels for myself when slaying enemies.

Sadly, I can't throw myself in near death situations just to level up. If I had that strong of a will, maybe I'd do it, but I'd rather not put myself in very dangerous situations. The skill does strengthen me but not make me invincible. Legendary beasts, one example is the infamous elder dragon (who by the way is said to be at least 20 thousand years old), can still kill me even with the skill activated.

Another drawback is the fact that I faint immediately afterwards. Although I guess I can suppress the fainting for a bit longer like I just did to get my friends some help, I need to either level up the skill or have a strong enough will to overcoming it.

Speaking of overcoming things, there's a rumor that if you have a strong enough will, the skill system (that's what I'll be calling the system our world has) will actually acknowledge your strength and allow you to bypass some cons of a skill you focused your will on. Maybe someday I can get the system to acknowledge me, and allow me to bypass both the verge-of-death and fainting cons.

As much as I would like to learn more about my skill, the system says it has only appeared once in the history of the world. Furthermore, I highly doubt that it's wel recorded, even if the first user was famous. Nobody reveals their trump cards, obviously, and I have no intention to reveal this skill to others. That's stupid.

While I was pondering about these things, they noticed me thinking.

"What're ya thinkin about?"(Gin)

"Not much, basically just thinking about how we made it out."

Maybe they don't remember or nobody told them that I rescued them, but they believed my reason. I can't really tell them what I'm thinking about just like that, even if one of them was my childhood friend.

"Well maybe we defeated the beast or something. We got a ton of exp so that's what I think."(Jace)

"Yeah, and maybe we just fainted afterwards due to exhaustion."(Marie)

At this rate, they won't believe me if I said that I killed the beasts on my own, which is good.

Although injured, we still did level up by a few levels. That's a good achievement on it's own for the day, coupled with the fact that the guild actually explored the dungeon part where we came from, and considered the dead beast s a fruit of our subjugation, so we get money as well. We'll probably celebrate a bit after I recover my strength.
