Leo, Andrew, Faust, and Luke began walking quickly down the road to the town. While walking they passed by the docks and the ferry was now missing. Eli, their previous captain, had already left the island. They continued walking and from the docks, they quickly entered the pretty town.
The lampposts where now vacant of light and there wasn't a shred of fog on the island. Instead, the morning sun lit everything up. They appeared to be in a residential area.
They encountered a man taking out his trash, so they asked him, "Excuse me sir, could you tell us where the store is?"
The man looked over from the trashcan with a tired expression, before he woke up, "Oh? Visitors? We don't get too much anymore after Old Man Miller went crazy. It's up the road there on the right, along the town's main road. You can find pretty much anything you need along Main Street."
"Thank you!"
The man just nodded and yawned before he closed the lid on his trashcan. He stretched with a nonchalant expression as he watched them start walking away, he quickly lost interest and went into his house.
Doe squad continued walking along the sidewalk and turned to their right. A long street appeared before them, decorated in small ribbons across the lampposts. They began walking down Main Street, they started peeking inside most the shop windows. The majority of the shops weren't open yet due to the early hours, but one luckily was.
They stepped inside and a quiet bell rang from above their heads. They looked around for a moment and found the shelves half empty.
"Visitors? Yikes, that's bad news. You guys get some supplies before the storm arrives." A voice was heard from the group's left originating behind a counter. A middle-aged woman looked at everyone with slightly worried expressions.
"Getting caught up in a storm like this has to suck." She muttered.
The group grabbed some large packets of water bottles, water jugs, and a lot of canned food. They slowly hobbled over to the counter with all the stuff. As they placed the stuff to buy on the counter, Leo had a realization.
"Bishop never gave us money." Leo sighed.
The other three froze, and the cashier looked up at them. Leo, Luke, and Faust slowly tilted their heads in the direction of Andrew and stared at him.
"W-what?"
"I'm technically ten-thousand dollars in dept." Leo said.
"I'm just poor." Faust said.
"I was cut off from my family's money from a young age." Luke said.
"A-and?" Andrew muttered.
"Dude, we know your family is rich." Luke said with narrowed eyes.
Andrew sigh, "Fine…" He took out his wallet and started flipping through it before handing over a card.
The lady looked at it and then back at Andrew. Then she looked at the other three, then back to the card again. She said, "I can just put this on Old Man Miller's tab. The company pays it every month since it's always nonexistent."
She handed the card back before looking at Leo in confusion, "But ten grand?"
"Long story involving a doctor." Leo shrugged.
"Oh, you must be from East Grimash then. Healthcare there's always left something to be desired."
"…Yeah." Leo muttered as the doctor in question lost their license to practice a few years before the operation on Leo, so it wasn't exactly legal./
They got the cans bagged but then they had to lug the water all the way back to the lighthouse. As they were walking along the road, someone honked their horn behind them. They all stopped and turned, seeing an angry man behind the wheels of a crappy car.
"Stop blocking the road!" They yelled while sticking their head out their car window.
"Wh- Huh?" Luke muttered in confusion, before yelling, "Go around dipshit!"
It was a two-way road, and the street was practically empty. At the moment, it was quite literally just Doe squad, this one driver, and a squirrel watching their quarrel while chewing on a nut. There was nothing else in sight besides the road and the trees.
The driver however, honked their horn in frustration.
"Let's just stand in the grass for a moment." Faust sighed.
The four walked over to the side of the road and the man drove by. As he did, he rose his middle finger to them.
"Seriously, who shit in his cereal this morning?" Luke muttered.
They continued making their way to the lighthouse and eventually got to the door covered in sweat. They put all the groceries next to the door and laid in the grass. By now, most of the shops in town would be open so after a slight rest, Faust jumped up.
"Alright! Let's go back down." He said with a giddy expression.
"Ugh, how aren't you tired…" Andrew muttered.
"I just shoved my tiredness to a deep dark place where it will never resurface. Like I do most of the time." He said with an innocent smile.
"That's… dark." Luke said with concern.
"It was a joke." Faust grinned.
"Okay, well, make it more obvious because now I'm just concerned about your mental health." Andrew replied.
Leo stood up with a sigh and cut them off, "Let's just go and get this over with."
Andrew and Luke groaned slightly but stood up. They looked at Faust and shook their heads.
They then made their way back into town and they were once more exhausted.
"Doesn't even seem like there's going to be a storm." Faust said as he looked into the clear sky.
Leo looked up too and had to agree, "Yeah, it's pretty nice out."
Faust looked towards Leo, "So what're we going to do?"
Leo's eyebrows furrowed, "I don't know, you're the one who wanted to go into the town. You decide."
"Oh, okay. Hmm…" Faust thought for a moment, "Ah! I saw a movie theater on Main Street! I haven't seen a movie in forever. Also, to spite Andrew, let's make him pay for it since he got out of paying for the food and water!"
"Huh? To spite me? What the hell does that mean?"
"Well, as a noun, spite is a desire to hurt, annoy, or offend someone. As a verb, it means to deliberately hurt, annoy, or offend someone." Faust said with a satisfactory nod.
"I know what spite means! I mean why spite me?"
"I dunno, I just felt like it."
"Please don't make me the group punching bag." Andrew said with a deflated tone.
"Well, it won't be out of spite, but instead because we're all poor." Leo said to Andrew as he patted his shoulder. Andrew sighed and nodded.
They walked to Main Street and Faust guided them to the movie theater with an excited face. They entered the building and were hit with a nice blast of air conditioning. They looked at the posters on the wall and there was a nice selection.
"You know, I've never seen a movie before." Leo said offhandedly as they looked around.
Everybody stopped what they were doing and stared at him.
"Is that not normal?" Leo asked hesitantly.
Instead of answering him, they just stared. Leo gulped slightly and stared back.
"Hey, gonna… you know, buy anything?" An annoyed clerk said at the ticket booth they were standing next to.
Andrew, Faust, and Luke looked over at him fiercely causing him to shrink back. They then returned their stares to Leo.
Eventually, Faust spoke, "You're weird." He turned to the clerk and pushed Andrew in front of himself. Faust said, "Four adult tickets to see Simon of the Dead by that Edgar guy."
"Wrong name." The annoyed clerk said as they began gathering the tickets.
"Oh, is Edgar the wrong director?"
"I meant the name in the movie's title. Actually, who cares. Here, take your tickets." He gave the group their tickets and sat in a chair, laying their face on their hand in boredom. The four then ventured into the movie theater and Leo sat down looking up at the large screen.
His eyes widened in amazement as the screen lit up. He found himself mesmerized by the film. It was a comedy with some horror elements, not to mention the undead.
The film ended and the others got out of their seats with content faces. Leo however seemed a bit dazed.
"Hey, let's go get something to eat." Faust said while looking slyly at Andrew. Andrew however sighed.
"I think somebody liked it." Luke said with a deep laugh while pointing at Leo who was still looking at the screen.
Leo looked over at them absentmindedly and asked, "Can we watch another?"
"Eh? I guess he was serious about never seeing a movie. I thought he was joking." Andrew muttered.
"Alright, lets watch another then we can go eat." Faust said.
"But the movies are so expensive nowadays." Andrew complained.
"I don't want to hear it; you heard the boss!" Faust said, mimicking a thick mobster accent.
A defeated Andrew could only give out the money for another four tickets.
I went swimming for the first time in like, at least a year, probably two, and I forgot sunscreen. It was really fun though, I miss swimming, I used to do it all the time.
Anyway, now I’m tired, my shoulders hurt, and sunburnt lol. So that’s why this chapter is shorter. I also hope I never made Leo mention he’s seen a movie before.
Finally, the doctor in question is Cliff from the previous arc.
