Keep To The Rules

MICHAEL'S POV:

Tame me?

So sad.

How could they even think that this angel-like- baby face could tame a demon like me? It's just like hoping fire could burn out the whole ocean. Which is impossible.

I climbed on her bed slowly. Not for any particular reason but to mock at the face of the one they agreed on to tame me.

The chosen one set aside to tame the rebellious beast.

How funny. An entire army of Avalore couldn't tame the devil in me. Why would she make any difference?

I stared at her sleepy face and the more I felt disgusted and mocked.

I remembered last night's encounter with her. The way she touched my hair made me feel something I never wanted to feel. Something so repulsing. So I made a rule about her touching it.

I watched her as she stirred in all directions. Then she rolled over to my side, and a pair of sleepy brown eyes stared back at me.

"Good morning, my princess. How was your night?" Could I be any less annoying by saying that?

My eyes moved as she scrambled to the door and checked to see if the locks on her door were still intact. She is even more foolish to think that I'll break into a princess room when the balcony is there.

Soon her royal maidens arrived, and she drove them away. Her brown eyes fell on me and it felt like a...glare. Of course, she doesn't know how to deliver the bone-chilling stares I have seen all my life.

"Why are you here? In my room? On my bed and creeping me out?"

She pointed the silvery edge of a sword at me. The last time I saw one of those did me no good.

I remembered that day, when I was sixteen years and how I begged a hooded figure for fire and she stabbed me instead with something like this.

I endured the pain for three years along with the loss of my mom.

"Were you here all night to watch me sleep?"

Was I?

She sighed and let go of her sword, "Please can you tell me why you are here and leave? My royal maids would be back soon and you are about to get me into so much trouble."

I scoffed. She was the reason I was almost beheaded yesterday and slapped by that taskmaster. Why was I even at that god-forsaken function anyway? Oh, I almost forgot. A silver tray filled with cups of wine was shoved at me and I was threatened with my life, again, by that weird knight to serve the guest at the said ballroom. I refused, but he promised to render me bald if I should continue to resist. I don't care if I should lose my life, but my hair is an exception. I value and take pride in it.

I stood up and pinned her to the wall and got to the real reason why I was there.

I could feel her heart beating loudly and saw the effect I had on her.

"I never got to make you promise to follow the rules I gave you yesterday."

I recalled why I did not. While I was making my rules, I felt my gums itch as my fangs threatened to fall out.

I disappeared before they could. I have never had trouble controlling my demon. He became a nuisance the moment I inhaled her scent. My fangs were popping out and I felt this urge to bite her neck. Which was disgusting.

"Fine. I promise to keep to your rules if you promise to leave my room and never sneak up on me like that again. It could get you into trouble and I don't want you to get hurt."

My demon purred. I frowned.

"Why are you so worried about me getting into trouble?"

"I don't... know."

I don't want to believe that. I searched her big brown eyes for answers but I found none.

I pulled away to leave. I head for her balcony.

"Hey! What are you doing?!" She asked.

What does it look like I'm doing? "I'm... leaving."

"By jumping off the balcony?!!!" She asked with her eyes bulging out.

I smirked, "Yes."

I could see the fear in her eyes and it felt good to see. She might be thinking that I am on a suicide mission.

"Remember to keep to the rules." I pressed. Especially the first one.

I turned around to see how high I was above the ground. Not to worry. I can't die unless I let my demon take over.

And I did and jumped.
