A Brief Respite

I stared blankly at the plate before me. A half-eaten pile of mashed potatoes, grilled sausages, and bread laid over it.

From the peripheral of my vision, I noticed Zeal eyeing my food with hunger. She just finished her own portion, leaving her plate empty and abandoned on her side of the table.

I looked at her and smiled, "You may have it." The little one quickly ran over and took the plate before running back.

She dug in almost immediately, sparing no portion.

My daughter had an appetite that rivaled that of a dragon, and it concerned me still despite the fact that I was growing used to it.

The events of last night did not seem to bother her that much, but the same could not be said about the city and its people.
