17. The Invitation

After capturing Logan and sending him back to Orleans, Natalia returned to her home.

She witnessed an unusual sight at the transfer office of the Vampire Association for illegal immigrants in the Monde Humain. All the office bearers treated him respectfully, not like some other vampire who was here to return to Orleans. And based on what Natalia found out about her, he does deserve some respect.

At some point, she thought that whatever he was saying was a lie and kept her guard up until the time she took him to the transfer office.

She didn't give much thought to what he said earlier and ignored his words.

She returned to her home; Logan's name was the last on her list, so, for now, she doesn't have anything to do. Her mission was a success, even though some remained to be caught. For those, she put their names on a different list that will be dealt with separately.

She entered her room and plopped herself on her bed; it was already dark in the evening now, and she had already had her meal. For today, she fed on human blood; she hunted down one for herself instead of reserved blood.

She was thinking about the children and other humans she met today at Logan's house. She was thinking about how they were going to head on with their lives if Logan was a big help to them. And what was the thing Logan asked for in exchange, and what sort of help did they need?

Thinking about these things, she slept on the bed in the same clothes she was wearing before.

All the time she was turning left and right on her bed, she slept in the same clothes with her boot on.

"I think I have to get up", she said with her eyes closed, lying on the bed. She must be feeling uncomfortable while sleeping.

She wakes up at midnight to remove her shoes and change her clothes so that she can sleep comfortably.

She got up and lazily sat on the bed. She slowly removed her shoes and then her socks. She undressed, threw her clothes aside somewhere in the room, and went towards her closet to pick up her pajamas.

She opened the closet, pulled her clothes out, and wore them.

"Where is Agnes?", The thought suddenly came to her mind.

"I did not meet her in the morning, nor did I see her after I came back.", In the morning, Natalia tried to call out for Agnes to take up the weapons she thought would be needed, but Agnes didn't appear, and Natalia left there without meeting her. And when she came, there were already a lot of things on her mind, and she didn't think of her.

"I think I should go and look for her ones.", She wore her in-house slippers and got out of her room.

"She must be either in her room or her lab.", It was already midnight, and there couldn't be any other possible place for her, so she thought to look there first.

Natalia's room and Agnes's room were on the same floor, so she decided to first go and check in her room.

"Agnes, are you in there?", she called out for her in her sleepy voice, and she knocked on her door.

"Agnes"

"Agnes", she called out her name multiple times, but no one opened the door.

Agnes wasn't in her room, so the other place remained to check.

Dragging her feet towards the stairs, she came down.

She was walking with her eyes closed.

She was walking toward Agnes's lab, half asleep. She passed through the drawing room. She smelled her presence around her.

"I guess she is in here; let's meet her for once when I already came down."

Suddenly, she smelled another scent in the room.

She shot open her eyes, thinking that someone had intruded on her house.

She didn't find anyone in front of her, but she knew that there was someone behind her whom she didn't know—a vampire.

She turned around to see who was there, completely putting her guard on and preparing to attack instantly if needed. She even pulled out her sharp nails to attack and raised her hands to strike the unknown vamp.

She saw a man sitting on the sofa across from Agnes; the two were staring at her.

She first looked at Agnes and then at the unknown vampire.

There was an awkward silence between them for a minute; neither of them said anything, and Natalia didn't move an inch as if she were frozen.

"Hey! Kiddo!", Agnes called out to her.

"A", she said, looking at Agnes and seeing her tilting her head. "Oh!", Natalia put her hand down, pulled in her nails, and stood straight.

"I didn't know we had a guest here. I will just go back to my room,", she said, scratching her head.

Natalia wanted to ask Agnes about where she was for the whole day and about the unknown guest too, but not in front of someone else. So, she decided to return to her room and ask later after the vamp left.

Natalia didn't hear the two talking from her room; she can easily hear everything from her room with her hearing ability. That means Agnes must have put on a spell or this vampire must have some power, but that only makes the situation suspicious for Natalia.

She turned towards the stairs to go back to her room.

"No, stop. We are talking about something that relates to you, so I think you should be here and give your opinion,", Agnes said.

Natalia was thinking, Why would Agnes use a spell to not let her hear anything and then ask her to join in?

Natalia went toward Agnes and sat behind her.

"Mr. Roerig, this is Natalia, and you are Mr. Roerig,", Agnes introduced the two.

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Natalia", the man said, extending his hand toward Natalia.

"Hello.", Natalia ignored her gesture and kept staring at him.

The man took his hand back after an awkward rejection, and Agnes overlooked her behavior, knowing how she is.

"Mr. Roerig, you can tell everything to her directly now."

"Sure. Ms. Natalia, I am here with an invitation from the Dragomir family."

Natalia felt her nervous system make her heart beat fast through adrenaline.
