WALK YOU HOME

I was drinking these things way too fast. In the back of my mind I knew that, but I couldn't seem to stop myself. I just wanted to keep drinking them while I talked to him.

"Let's ask some non committal questions then." He gave me a playful look, something that said come on, do what I do.

"Like what?" I wondered as I finished half of the drink in my hand.

"Just some basic questions. Like how old are you Jacy?"

"Seriously?" I laughed at the question he'd asked me. "Don't tell me you think I am underage."

"It never even crossed my mind, but I have a feeling that you're older than you look."

"I'm twenty-nine." I told him with another laugh. "How about you Mr Handsome? How old are you?"

"Thirty-two."

"Thirty-two and already so successful." I joked. "Your parents must be proud."

"My parents are dead." His face was still playful but his voice had sobered and sounded serious when he said that.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that." I felt the smile leave my face then.

"You didn't know, so don't worry about it." He waved it off like it was nothing.

"If it's any consolation I don't have any family either." I grimaced as I picked up the third drink sitting in front of me.

I could feel the alcohol hitting me hard. My head was fuzzy, my chest was hot, yet I couldn't quite make myself stop. I just wanted to forget what I had seen in that room tonight, I didn't want to remember what it was I really wanted to do to Scummy.

Because, truth be told, if I hadn't called Lucian there to take care of that asshole, then I probably would have made him disappear. No one would have found him, and no one would have missed him. But his wife deserved to find justice, she needed to know that she was safe from him. And if he just up and disappeared she would always wonder if he was coming back for her or the kids. I couldn't let that happen to her, she didn't need that.

But in my oblivion, in my quest to forget, I was finding something that might be able to distract me for the night. I think I could use this mysterious Mr Sexy sitting in front of me. He wouldn't regret it, and neither would I.

With my inhibitions gone and my mind made up, I decided to turn up the flirting game a little. I knew he already wanted to take me home tonight, so there was nothing wrong with telling him in subtle ways that I was up for it.

One of the benefits of not being fully human, to being something a little more, was that I didn't need to be as cautious as other people. It was why I went after the cases that I did. It was why I did my job so well. And it was why I wasn't afraid to sleep with a random guy in a bar.

And I was an extra special extra type of person. I wasn't just a werewolf, I was an alpha werewolf. A very rare alpha since I was a born female alpha. Most alphas are men. And most alpha ascend to their position. To be born an alpha, to be born with that type of raw power, it was rare. And furthermore, to be a woman who rivaled almost any man on the planet for strength, that was even more rare than any alpha out there.

I had run from my pack, from the responsibilities they wanted to put on me. I didn't want to lead, I didn't want to rule. I wanted to have the chance to be me. I just wanted to be free. Now, I was on the lam for a different reason though.

After I left home, my cousin took over my pack and he was always afraid that I was coming back to take the pack from him. So now I had to worry about him or his men finding me. I wasn't too worried as long as it was a fair fight, but there was no way in hell Victor was going to play fair at all.

Anyway, long story short, I could handle myself against this sexy beast. And he was just as much not human as I was and I know he sensed it in me as well.

"So we're both orphaned little baby birds left to fend for ourselves in the big bad world?" He was grinning. "Maybe we should help keep each other warm during those long cold nights alone."

"Oh, whatever have I done for all these nights that I was all alone?" I pretended to be so lost as we both laughed at his words.

Kyle leaned into me then, sliding his hand over mine where it lay on the bar. Our shoulders brushed against each other as he moved in close. The feel of his hand on mine was not what I had expected either. It was hot and firm, but it sent a jolt through me, something I had not felt in a long time.

His lip brushed against my ear as he whispered his next words.

"Can I walk you home now, Jacy." His words and tone were actually quite sweet when he spoke them to me. Oh look, he is capable of being something other than a boorish man.

"Oh, Kyle, I thought you would never ask." I giggled as I joked with him. "I think I would really like that." I smiled as I answered more seriously.

"Let me take care of these drinks and we can head out."

"Don't be a total man, I can pay for my own drinks." I said as I went to stand but I lost my balance the second my feet hit the floor.

"You save your strength for when we get back to your place, let me pay. It's gentlemanly." He insisted.

"Fine." I conceded. I wouldn't have been able to pay right now anyway, I needed to sober up.

I hoped the brisk night air sobered me up a little. Kyle had been right about those drinks being strong. I was drunk off my ass already.
