Slowly, Daphne cupped his cheeks with her hands, tears welling in her eyes. Her heart stung, almost like it was twisting onto itself as it stole her breath away.
It hurt so much.
More than a dagger driven into her chest. More than a potent poison forced into her mouth. More than any pain she had ever felt.
Accompanied with it was a wave of emotions. She didn't know what Korbin had been thinking of or what memories he had been revisiting, but the emotions spoke for themselves.
If emotions could have a taste. These were pure bitter.
She bit the inner sides of her cheeks, forcing herself not to cry. Yet, despite her best wishes, large teardrops rolled off her cheeks. One by one, they fell onto the floor as her heart thumped to the beat of a raging drum.
"Daphne, don't cry." He gently brushed a tear off the side of her face, but another one soon rolled down. "Did I say something wrong?"
