Of The Broken Heart

In the dimly lit room, a person with a tall body stood gallantly. That person had his body turned from the candlelight that illuminated the room.

Two horns grow from each side of his head, with a fluffy cloak that covers his shoulder to foot. 

"Ah, what a waste of time." Yellow eyes shining so brightly gave a heavy sensation to the cold room. 

He looked like a predator of the wild as he watched the scared little girl shiver beside two dead bodies. 

She cried with her red face and begged him to kill her like what he did to her family. The fancy white dress has tarnished with the red of her parent's blood.

"P...please." She put her forehead on the ground and begged the dragon to stop this nightmare. Sadly, they are not in the dream world.

The dragon still remembers that day when he came to the surface from their palace in the sky. His simple visit became bloody in a matter of months.

Right now, many people want to kill him because the dragon is a dangerous creature that lives.

Teaching magic to humans was a mistake because they made the knowledge to wage wars.

'How dare they use his knowledge of magic against him!'

"You're so pathetic." He then turned around and was ready to leave this dirty place.

Once upon a time, he was fascinated with the life of humans, but now the feeling of wonder has already been replaced with hate and emptiness, especially toward the noisy nobles.

The human nobles of this world keep doing something that tips the balance of nature, such as pollution, wars, enslavement of other races, and more.

That is why all the dragons won't let the tragedy happen much longer. One by one, dragons visited and descended from the sky to give a warning and lesson. But humans were bellow their wisdom, so now they make the dragons their enemy.

The little girl picks up a knife lying on the floor and tries to hurt herself. 

"What are you doing, girl?" The great dragon looked shocked by the girl's action, being someone as young and pure as her and ready to face death. It is fascinating but also scary to him.

Her petite body trembled when the dragon focused his gaze back on her. The little girl closed her eyes and bit her lip until it drew blood.

With a little bit of his power, he conjures his magic and makes her pass out. He never believed that he was a cruel dragon. 

There are many good things that he did. He also helps humans with all his heart, but some are greedy little creatures. They want to kill him and take his heart to make them the most powerful beings on this planet. 

"Huh..." He exhales slowly and bends down to lift the girl in his arms. She is very light in the pool of his strong hand. He looks at the fragile little girl and thinks of his first and only human friend, Rana.

'Rana, if you are here with me right now. What will you do?' 

His chest feels so hurt right now. The dragon intends to teach this little human being so she understands the reason for his hate.

The dragon walks with a slumped shoulder. Killing humans feels hollow in his heart right now. He will stay low for now and back home to his temporary residence in the cave in Starcross Mountain. 

Starcross Mountain is near the South Pole. The mountains get buried with thick snow that makes humans reluctant to come. He is an ice dragon, thus he has no problem living in a cold place. He wasn't sure if the child in his arm could live for a week tough.

The ice dragon walks and leaves a mark on the earth. He left the kingdom that had been reducing to rubble. There are so many dead bodies that lie under the construction.

"Demon! Go away from here!!" A woman screamed when she saw the dragon walk in the street. She threw a rock right toward the dragon's head. 

He dodged easily.

"He kidnaps Princes! Guard attack!" Two soldiers ran toward the dragon with their magic swords, while the other three used a magic stick to conjure a fireball.

The ice dragon exhales slowly and makes the fire extinguished in the instant. He gave off a powerful aura that caused the two soldiers near him to slam into the wall.

"Aaa!" The humans scream. That loud voice makes the girl in the dragon's arm squirm, fortunately still unconscious.

After that, not a single human was brave enough to challenge him. They run away like deer when they see a lion in the forest. The dragon did not bat an eye on them. Let the coward run as far away as they can so they can reflect on their wrong action toward him.

They reach the forest when the bright sun rises from the east. The dragon put the little girl down near the blackwood tree. He doesn't know what to do with the child. At 350 years old, not a single day passed for him to stand near a child.

He walks around looking for fresh water for his companion. When he finds a small spring, he looks at his blacked hand and washes away the blood that still sticking to his skin. 

With the ice needle, he hunts down a wild rabbit. After wandering around he comes back to the girl's resting place. He was ready to make breakfast for the human child.

The dragon confesses that he can't do fire magic, so he uses his special crystalline to focus sunlight on a single point and make a fire. The dry leaf burns and spreads to the dry wood underneath.

"Ughh..." Small moans reach the sensitive ears that belong to the dragon. He keeps his distance so he doesn't give the girl a scare.Still, she gasps and hides her face when she sees him.

"Don't be afraid of me, human child. I do not have any harmful intention toward you". A deep voice reached her ears.

"Leve me alone!" The dragon watched the screaming girl with a stoic expression.

"Leave me alone, please!" She yelled the second time.

The dragon gets up from his place and grants her wish. Frankly, he wasn't going anywhere. He just wanted to test her reaction when he left her alone. 

Thirty minutes pass, and finally, the dragon hears the noble princess call for help. He ignored her for another thirty minutes until there wasn't any crying voice to hear.

"Do you want my help?" The dragon asks the girl, who curls like a ball.

"No!... Y-yes, please." An uncertain voice answered him. 

"What did you want me to do?"

"Taa-ake me back to my parents!" She demands like the spoiled little kid she is.

"You understand right that I can't do what you ask?" His sharp eyes pierce into the girl while his white hair frames his face perfectly.

"You killed them, you monster! Why?!" The little princess attacked the dragon with her fist and tears came from her eyes.

"I had my reason. First of all, your parents make people in your kingdom hunt me like a sheep. Then they destroyed the little village and the place that I used to hide for a while. Did you know that they made a legal for a slavery?" Said the dragon while letting the girl hit him. Honestly, he doesn't feel anything at all from her abuse.

The princess of the Novacora kingdom shakes her head. This child is ignorant of the world around her. Seriously, who else is to blame if not her parents?

"It's hurt right here". The girl tells the dragon about the pain in her chest.

"I know the feeling very well. It happened to me every time I tried to close my eyes. That is the reason why some dragons are light sleepers" 

The girl bit her lips and tucked his long branch horn. Strangely, she feels safe near the killer of her family.

"Why do I feel this way?" She asks the dragon and tries to hug him.

"Because we are higher beings than humans. We can make certain feelings wash away. It is part of our nature. Also in this world, we have to maintain the balance, sometimes one of us needs to destroy something so the planet remains healthy"

"I don't get it"

"I know you don't. You are still a child. Someday, you will understand and when the time comes, I hope you don't hate us..." He finishes his sentence with a low voice and hopes the child doesn't hear him.

They eat the rabbit in silence. 

"Who is your name?" The princess asked.

"Leviashivae"

"Levi! My name is Dorea Novaline". Finally, a small smile appear on the girl's face. The dragon watched the black of his blackened hands spread a bit more. 

The Dragons aren't supposed to absorb negative energy from a human their destiny is to remain pure when maintaining order without bias. Strong emotions either positive or negative, aren't part of the order, they can corrupt the dragon that should remain pure.

The complex emotion that The Creator created is unique to human beings only. The Dragons have emotions also, but not as chaotic as humans. 

"Did you want to come with me?" Leviashivae asked the little Dorea.

"...No?" She didn't sound sure about herself and started fidgeting with her fingers.

"Why? No one waits for you anymore". He tilts a head with confusion.

"It's because you are so mean and evil!" This negative energy is back again, building on the surface of the girl's heart. 

Leviashivae furrowed his eyebrows. This little human makes him learn what a headache is. The sensation felt weird when he tried to absorb the energy.

"So where are we going?" Dorea asked the dragon. The angry face is gone in the instant and already replaced with curiosity.

"Now, you chose to stay with me?" He still doesn't understand the effect of taking away the negativity of human emotion. Dorea seemed too mad a moment ago, and then she became an agreeable child the next.

"Yeah" 

The dragon nods with satisfaction. He then helps Dorea to stand and continue their journey together. 

What a rough start to a journey. Leviashivae knows at some point that this girl will turn their back on him, but for now, he will enjoy the peace when it lasts.
