Chapter 14

When Edan finished, Gideon said, “You didn’t mention stairs to the basement.”

“The house is in New Orleans. Most homes don’t have basements because of the chance of flooding, which invariably happens whenever there’s a hurricane. At least the older homes don’t.”

“Interesting.” Gideon stared at the ground floor sketch for a moment before asking, “How long has he owned the house?”

“Since it was built in the mid-eighteen-hundreds.”

“You’re sure?”

“Yes, Gid, I am.”

“Did he build it? Well, have it built?”

“That’s my understanding. What are you thinking?” Edan asked.

“If I were a vampire and I wanted my lair to be where I lived, but I didn’t want anyone to know, and…” Gideon tapped the sketch, “if I knew that New Orleans buildings didn’t have basements, but I wanted one in my house, I’d make certain it happened.”

“If that were true, I’d think rumors would have flown about the eccentric man who insisted one was added,” Delilah said.
