Chapter 50: The Return

A few days later, Zaos, donned some loose clothes, and left his training grounds for the surface world.

He spent the duration of his time after the evolution familiarizing himself with his new abilities. After gaining a certain level of understanding and confidence, he decided to return to his force.

[I can't let the outside world forget me after all…] Zaos gave a confident smirk.

Opening the trap door sealing the underground chamber from the surface, Zaos' senses were immediately flooded with a myriad of sensations.

A wave of nausea hit him as Zaos struggled to process all the information he perceived.

He had spent more than five months underground, isolated from the bustling environment of the surface world. After being reintroduced to this environment with significantly heightened senses, Zaos was temporarily unable to handle the stimuli his sensory organs perceived.

Zaos spent close to a minute half-knelt on the stairs right before the trap door.

Phew~

After adapting to the changes brought about by his environment, he finally stepped out of the gloomy stairway.

What greeted him was a lush forest teeming with activity. Although the numerous sensations still flooded his senses, Zaos was able to appreciate the bustling atmosphere of the surface world.

"I'm back…" He muttered under his breath.

Observing his surroundings silently, Zaos quickly gained a rough understanding of his new senses.

[I can discern scenes up to 1.5 km now…] Zaos detected some forest creatures scattered around a 1.5 km range from him. Although he could not observe every detail in that range, his senses were sharp enough to perceive any movements made within it.

This discovery filled him with joy but it was quickly suppressed by the slight dizziness that accompanied his wide scale detection.

[Although my observation area has broadened, I'll have to limit most of its capabilities to avoid overwhelming myself…] Zaos cautiously withdrew most of his senses to a range he felt comfortable with viewing.

After resolving his dizziness, he recalled the numerous creatures he had detected earlier.

[I might as well test my bloodlust before returning,] Zaos made his way to one of the weaker creatures he had sensed.

His movements were so fast that he arrived before the target, a kilometer away in under a few seconds.

Once in front of the creature, Zaos wielded his dagger and thrust it into the head of his prey.

The boar-like creature only witnessed a blur suddenly appear before a sharp pain penetrated through the thick hide on its head and into its brain.

The creature slumped to the ground with a thud, the life in its eyes quickly extinguished.

[I can get used to this kind of speed,] Zaos nodded, satisfied at the turn of events. He crouched before the corpse, retrieved his dagger, and stared intently at the blood oozing out of the thin wound.

He watched for a few minutes, yet the overwhelming desire for blood he expected never came.

[It was cured? My bloodlust has been cured?] Zaos was enthusiastic and a bit skeptical of this outcome.

[Maybe the blood isn't high quality enough?] Zaos shifted his attention to his surroundings, once he spotted another target, he hastily made his way towards it.

The beast this time was a large serpentine organism. Its length measured around 100 meters, and its robust body sported incredibly tough-looking scales.

Standing in front of the oblivious creature, Zaos felt no sense of danger coming from the creature.

[It's not a savage beast but it's much stronger than an average animal…] Zaos observed the slumbering creature. After a while, he got closer to it, balled his fist, and struck the triangular head of the giant serpent.

*Bang!*

Zaos' fist shattered the creature's scales and skull before turning its brain into a pulp. Till its death, the giant serpent remained oblivious to Zaos' presence.

Zaos retrieved his hand from the hole form in the creature's head. He gazed at his hand, observing the mixture of brain tissue and blood stuck to it.

Similar to last time, Zaos felt no intense cravings towards the blood that soiled his arm.

[Am I truly cured?] Excitement filled Zaos' mind. Although his bloodlust wasn't much of a problem after consuming the elixir, he loathed the latent danger his instability possessed. He had silently searched for a method to eliminate this hidden threat after forming the Crimson Rogue's Legion yet to no avail. He planned to continue his search after his evolution, yet he hadn't anticipated that his problems would be resolved by his evolution.

[I'll observe for a while, just in case it hasn't truly been cured,] Zaos decided to exercise caution, the consequences of suddenly losing control due to carelessly handling this matter was not something he wished to bear.

After organizing his thoughts, Zaos decided to return to his manor.

He closed his eyes, visualizing the environment near his manor. In a few seconds, Zaos' body faded from its original spot and reappeared a few meters away from the majestic brick manor.

Observing the scenery before him, Zaos smiled to himself.

After his five months' worth of training, Zaos could teleport a total of five times before he became exhausted due to mana overuse. After his evolution, he could teleport as many as twenty times before the dizziness kicked in.

[Although I can't use teleport in the heat of battle since it requires too much focus, I can use it to facilitate a quick escape or to move around swiftly…] Zaos smiled as walked towards his mansion.

As Zaos navigated the path toward the manor, he came across some guards stationed around the area. Most of the guards failed to detect Zaos' presence unless they were specifically gazing in his direction. This filled Zaos with puzzlement as he wasn't employing any stealth techniques or elemental weaves.

[Did my natural presence diminish after my evolution?] Zaos speculated as he passed by another guard who failed to sense him even though they were a few meters apart.

[This ability will effectively boost my effectiveness as an assassin…] Zaos gave a faint smile before swiftly making his way to the front door of his manor.

"Boss!" The guard in front of the door hastily greeted after laying eyes on Zaos' figure.

Zaos nodded before inquiring, "Have things been alright here?" He currently donned the appearance of Zaos.

"Yes, boss! The manor has been peaceful since you departed!" The brown-haired elf wearing leather armor responded.

Zaos nodded and proceeded to enter the manor. The interior of the manor remained the same way Zaos remembered it.

As Zaos made his way to the stairway leading to the upper floor, he spotted a familiar figure.

Dressed in a Victorian-style maid outfit, a green-haired female elf stood beside the stairway with a beaming smile across her face. She gazed directly at Zaos and spoke in an enchanting voice.

"Welcome back, my lord!" The beautiful wind elf maid spoke.

Immediately Zaos laid eyes on her his intuition for danger reacted. A lthough he felt no killing intent from her, he sensed a certain level of danger from her being.

[Impossible! How can I feel threatened by a mere elf?] Zaos felt perplexed and wondered if his senses were deceiving him. Just when he was about to dismiss the feeling, a certain thought struck him.

[Could… could she be a high elf?]
