"So your saying I have to stab them?" Speaking out loud, but in a low enough voice, no one could hear him. Rei could not believe what he had heard. As simple and spiritual as Ryujin Jakka tried to put it, he could simplify it in his brain. "To grant a person the powers of a Shinigami, you must transfer them using me and a conduit."
Placing his hand on his head, Rei could only imagine how ridiculous this would sound while explaining. 'Hey, before I train you guys, I have to stab you through the chest with my sword, ok?' The kids were already traumatized to a certain degree. He did not know how he could even go about it.
"The injection of spiritual powers would not harm their bodies. I do not understand why you hesitate." Rei's expression changed when he heard Ryujin Jakka talk about it so casually. 'You know such a smart spirit. You have zero common sense.' After thinking that, Rei took a deep breath and tried to figure out how he would do this.
'I guess the best way would be to get one of them to do it first and then convince the others… Damn, it sounds horrible even in my head.' It was going to suck, and he was going to have to be careful, but at the same time, he could not avoid it.
He was nowhere near versed enough in Jutsu or any ninja based training to teach them any other way. At this time, they had taken a little break since the kids were nowhere as fast or had the stamina Rei did; they would take time to rest now and again. Looking around, Fuyumi And Seiki were off in the distance playing in the forest, still within Rei's line of sight.
It was then that his gaze fell onto Ren. Like Rei, he was lying against a tree though, for him, it was to sleep while Rei was busy thinking to himself. "Hey, Ren, can you come here for a second." Standing up, Rei called Ren over. Hearing Rei, Ren woke up from his nap before lazily standing up and walking over.
"What is it?" Rubbing his eyes, Ren looked up at Rei. Taking one last deep breath, Rei tried to sound as nice as possible. "Do you remember when I said I would train you guys, right?" With Rei mentioning training Ren's attitude became more focused. It was the one thing he and the others truly asked Rei to do for them and what they were motivated to do.
Narrowing his eyes, Ren asked in a skeptical tone. "You are not thinking about bailing, are you?" Hearing Ren's question, Rei shook his head. "No, of course not. In fact, I was planning on training you guys to be like me. You would be able to do the stuff I showed you guys before." Referencing the time, he created a barrier and set up those lights in the cave.
Immediately Ren's eyes lost all traces of drowsiness. "Wait, really? You're really gonna teach us all of that." In all honesty, Ren was more interested in Kido than learning how to use a sword or even their clan sword-based techniques. Just from his burst of interest, Rei could tell, which is why he gritted his teeth as he said this next part.
"But first, I am going to have to insert around one-third of power into you." It was that sentence alone that caused Rei to recoil in instant regret. Ren, who was looking at Rei, suddenly took a step back. Wait wait! I worded that wrong, let me just explain." The stress of the situation caused him to word his sentence wrong.
"In truth, the reason I'm able to do what I do is because of what I am." Almost instantly, Ren showed a look of confusion. "What do you mean because of what you are." Tilting his head back and forth, Rei tried to see how he could word this. "Well, you know how every Jutsu requires chakra to an extent. It's in everyone even if you don't use it?"
Hearing Rei, Ren nodded, understanding the basic idea of Chakra. "Well, I am outside of that bracket. I don't use Chakra for my abilities. In fact, I may not even have Chakra inside of my body at this point." Hearing Rei, Ren looked at him as if trying to examine him in and out. 'He looks like a normal person to me.' That was the thought going through Ren's head.
However, thinking again, Rei had zero reasons to lie to him. "So what exactly are you then if not a human-like me." Rei looked at Ren at eye level. "Technically, I am a Shinigami. Though since I did not die before I became one, I guess I'm more of a hybrid." Hearing the word, Shinigami Ren's eyes widened. "You… You mean like a grim reaper?"
Seeing Ren believed him, Rei let out a sigh of relief. "Ya, although I haven't reaped any souls whatsoever. I'm pretty bad at my job, I guess." Trying to come to terms with this, Ren was in a state of disbelief and shock. It was in this state that his thoughts went back to what Ren said before about teaching them.
Looking up at Rei, Ren's eyes sparked. "So we are going to be Shinigami like you?" Responding in a nod, Rei continued. "Of course, that is if you are up for it." Edging Ren on with a smirk, Rei watched as Ren took a minute to think about it. "If it really lets me get strong enough to protect myself, then I am up for it."
"All right, then you are going to have to trust me on this part." Pointing Ryujin Jakka's blade directly at Ren's chest. At that moment, Ren tensed up while nodding slightly. 'This better work Ryujin Jakka or else you're gonna turn me into a child murderer.' In one swift movement, Rei plunged Ryujin Jakka directly into Ren's chest.
As Seiki and Fuyumi were busy playing, they suddenly felt a violent shockwave traveled through the ground along with a volley of wind. All the trees shook while the leaves on the ground flew into the air. As the wind rush finally began to calm, the two of them looked toward the direction it came from. "What was that?" Seiki spoke to himself as Fuyumi ended up responding.
"That came from where Big Brother Rei is, right? Ren should be with him." Realizing that the two of them made their way back to where Rei was. Standing in front of Rei, who looked as if he had just won a lottery, was Ren. You couldn't tell immediately what had changed other than the fact he now had a sheathed sword and his hand and was looking at his body.
Without knowing what was going on, the two of them ran over. "Hey, what was that big explosion. Also, Ren, when did you get a sword?" Hearing then, Ren turned around and looked at the two of them with a weird smile on his face. Seeing how weirdly excited he was, Rei could not blame him as he spoke. "Ren, why don't you try cutting down this tree?"
Knowing actions speak louder than words, Rei decided to have him show them. Ren looked at Rei nervously before asking. "Are you sure? I've never used a sword before." Hearing that, Rei encouraged him. "Trust me. You will be surprised." Looking at the tree, Rei had pointed to Ren and walked up to it slowly.
Taking one last glance at Rei, Ren placed his hand on his Zanpakuto's hilt. Repeating what he had seen others do, he slashed at the tree. Looking at Ren in awe, Seiki and Fuyumi couldn't even see his movements while Rei simply watched with a proud look on his face. Although the tree was not big, it was not small either, and with one simple stroke, the tree slowly began to fall over on its side.
"Woah… I did that?" Looking at the fallen tree, Ren could not believe what he had done. He had never moved that fast before and was nowhere near that strong. It didn't take long for Fuyumi and Seiki to ask questions themselves, and Ren happily replied to them. After around five minutes of explanations and another minute of hesitation, two more bursts of wind swooped over that.
By the end of all of it, the world had three new Shinigami and three new Zanapkuto. "All right, calm down." Getting all three of them to settle down, the last thing Rei needed was for them to start cutting down trees left and right. "Your guyses training will start once we arrive and get everything situated. In the meantime, try to get used to the differences in your strength, all right."
Calming themselves down like Rei said, all three of them were overly excited. "All right." Speaking unison, Rei was actually happy for them. Not only did that mean he could train them properly, but that meant they would get to their destination sooner. If he had to guess, each of them was around half as strong as when he first got linked with Ryujin Jakka.
Thus, a cycle continued for three days of Rei training his focus and concentration. Without the extra need for breaks, they all traveled a lot faster, not to say there weren't some incidents of some of them running into things. Furthermore, Rei continued to train himself when it came to Reishi control as they traveled.
Every time he tried and failed, he got closer and closer to finally completing the formation. Until on the final third day, they arrived, and Rei was finally able to form a three-dimensional object completely out of Reishi. Arriving at their old clan's location, all four dashed from out of the forest into a clearing.
Unlike when Rei left it, nature had taken its course. The ground wasn't scorched due to the heat, and even with the buildings that once stood here is gone, everything was left in a serene state. Walking around slowly, Rei glanced towards the hill his house used to be on top of. Of course, the house was gone, but he could still see the exact places his parent's graves were.
"You guys can look around. I'll be right back." Leaving the three of them to their own devices, Rei made his way to his parent's graves and proceeded to sit down in front of them. He didn't say anything for the first few minutes there and simply reminisced before speaking. "Sorry about burying you guys in such a rushed way. The second I get the chance I'll make sure I upgrade it."
Standing up, Rei's eyes dropped slightly before walking away. 'All right, let's do this.' Opening his right hand and holding it up in front of him, Rei began gathering Reishi from his body. Much quicker than when he first started, the Reishi came together, fitting like puzzle pieces against one another until finally forming a brick shape.
'Now this is the hard part.' Now that he could form the object he wanted out of Reishi, he truly needed it to become solid. Through concentration and focus, he could make the object, and now all that was left was fully visualizing every last detail in his mind. Slowly the block of Reishi began to gain substance.
Starting from a corner down, the Reishi transformed itself into stone until finally it was done. Opening his eyes, Rei caught the stone brick in his hand. It felt just like a normal stone would; however, it was really entirely made of Reishi. 'I do not think my mind was made for this kind of stuff.'
Knowing he would have to make an entire building this time, Rei prepared himself for the long hull. Exercising his body, he placed both hands out in front of him before thinking about exactly what he would make. "If this is really going to be the hub where spirits will go, I cannot afford to make it look shabby."
A big-time skip will be happening next chapter meaning everyone is growing up. I really wanted to set everything up in this chapter and the next so there is no confusion later.
(The story will only get better from here hopefully. Also means a more op MC :P)
