Centuries ago, war shattered Asgard. Tired of living in the shadow of the Aesir, Loki and his creatures of chaos sought the respect they believed was their due. Their rebellion, however, brought only death, exile, and the fleeting victory of the Aesir. But gods cannot die forever, and Loki’s defeat came with a prophecy: the war would come again, and next time, he would be ready. Many began to question whether Odin was truly fit to rule the realms. (But that was not my concern. I am an entity of death, a Fylgia bound to the cycles of life and fate. My interest lies elsewhere—with two souls cursed by Odin to live, die, and repeat their lonely existence for eternity. Sirius and Saoirse. For centuries, I’ve watched them endure lives destined for isolation and suffering. I’ve grown tired of their pain. What if they didn’t have to be alone? What if I could give them a chance to defy fate? And, perhaps, what if I could become part of the story that I’ve shaped? These were my thoughts leading up to the beginning of this story. But meddling with destiny has consequences. I probably should have paid more attention to that war, because what I didn’t realize was, by changing one thing, a ripple would expand across the realms that nobody could have anticipated.) Sirius and Saoirse, they weren’t just any Vampire and Werewolf that could have been brought together. They are creatures that must come to terms with the demon beasts inside of them or bringing them together might just end up finishing what Loki’s children had started. author note: This story builds a bit slower at the beginning and then picks up more action when they get to Asgard, so don’t worry, this book will have 500 chapters and this is just the beginning!
Saoirse looked at the Goddess with confusion, her brow furrowed. "Your family?" She asked cautiously.
"All of the werewolves of course." She said. Rising from her throne she descended the steps with an air of authority. Her hips swaying dangerously with each step and her white and gold cape flowing behind her. The two wolves looked up at her lazily, and then put their heads down again. "I want the members of your pack to renounce their human forms and join me here in Asgard. I am tired of the vampires running amuck down there, the curse that Odin put on them hasn't done anything to stop it. If the wolves return to my kingdom, the vampires will cease to have young and all of our problems will be solved."
Saoirse's mind reeled, she tried to understand what the goddess was saying. "Renounce their human form?" She repeated the Goddess's words, "but… they're born that way, how could they possibly do that?!"
Nanna's expression in her eyes darkened a bit,"Watch your tone girl…" she warned, her voice lowering an octave.
"How would they renounce their human form?" Saoirse asked more politely.
"By fire, of coarse!" The goddess said with an impatient tone. "I'm going to burn them all and purify them of the curse that Odin has placed on them. I don't want you getting in the way, so for this cause, I will keep you here until I have accomplished that. And then, you will tell them to follow me once they have resumed their true forms; you will tell them that they will serve the Aesir once again as their race once did. I am giving them a second chance, it is a great mercy."
Saoirse's eyes widened. "You can't be serious, you're talking about killing them! But they haven't even had a chance to live yet!"
The goddess's face hardened, her lips pressing into a thin line because once again Saoirse had questioned her. "They will live on in a greater form," she said coldly. "Otherwise, they will fall to Alastor and become vampires. Their free will is nothing but a leash to Loki's bloodline."
"They will just join Alastor's side! They will just be reborn as a vampire!" Saoirse questioned.
"Not if they are purified from their curse." The Goddess snapped. "Once they cut their connection to Loki's bloodline, they are loyal to me and will serve diligently, a better purpose to their creation than the free will that Loki has sought for them.
Saoirse shook her head in disbelief, "how can you justify killing them? You say these people are your family! Don't you care about your family? They are people!
The goddess laughed. Lokis children are beasts. Haven't you ever heard of Loki's child who was born from a horse?"
Saoirse shook her head confused. "Loki impregnated a horse?"
The Goddess laughed, "Of course not, the fool disguised himself as a horse and ended up becoming a mother." The Goddess laughed, "That fool is always making mischief and was never worthy of his position here in Asgard, he never was a true Aesir no matter how hard Odin tried to make a God out of him. His lesser race was meant to serve."
She gestured to a painting on the wall of Odin, gloriously riding an eight legged horse into battle. "His name is Slepnier." The Goddess said. "He is the only one of Loki's beasts that has never rebelled and continues to serve his majesty to this day. Now isn't that a better end than his brothers who are now chained up for their rebellion?"
"I kept my loyalty to Odin and look at me, I'm a goddess. We must all decide which side we will be on. The winning side, or the losing side."
"Yes, but burning the people! That cannot be the only way! You know that they diligently burn their bodies when they die!"
"ENOUGH! I AM NOT ASKING FOR YOUR OPINION! I HAVE SUMMONED YOU HERE BECAUSE ONCE THE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN BURNED, THEY WILL COME TO ME AND YOU MUST RELINQUISH YOUR COMMAND OVER THEM AT THAT TIME SO I CAN HAVE THEM!"
The wolves had woken up at her outburst and now stood by her side growling at Saoirse menacingly, warning her not to anger the Goddess anymore. Nanna softened her tone, "It has been increasingly less common for them to choose to burn themselves after death as they've done before. Many of them don't believe in our religion anymore. Vampires have begun giving birth to multiples."
Saoirse looked into the wolves savage faces with fear. They were mindless, their only will was to obey. What were they like before Nanna had control over them? Had they had families? Lives? They would never have free will under her command.
"I cannot do that." Saoirse said stubbornly, "The Norns have commanded it that I be given the birthright. They are my people to command and I want them to have their will."
Nanna smacked Saoirse hard across the face with a force that would have sent her flying across the room and into the wall if she hadn't been chained to the floor already. Blood trickled out of her mouth as she turned and looked back at the goddess with defiance. "Then watch as your people burn and that includes your husband."
She snapped her fingers and the black and white wolves stopped growling and one of them took her chains in his mouth and led her away. His strength was so great that she helplessly was dragged from the room, unable to fight it.
"Where are you taking me?!! Wait!" Saoirse cried. "We aren't done talking about this! You cannot have my people!"
"Take her to the observatory. I'm about to have dinner with some guests." The Goddess said waving her hand, "I'd like her to watch and see what Odin would do to her people if I didn't care about showing mercy. Let her see how he feels about the Vampire that has come to Asgard today. He claims he's not like his father, well I will show Odin he is wrong."
The two beasts dragged Saoirse away as she continued fighting it and soon she found herself in a room that overlooked the banquet hall of the Gods. They once again chained her wrists to the floor and all she could do was kneel in the vast glass space that seemed invisible to the people below. This was the hall of Valhalla. The place that Odin feasted in with his Valkyrie warriors.
As time went by, Valkyrie began to take their seats at a great banquet and the food was served. The last to enter besides Odin, who didn't seem to be present, was Sirius.
