CHAPTER SIX

I watched, as he stood on the podium. Ready to address the freshers. Avery and Kathleen also stood on the platform.

"My name is Alex Xanthos, I am the student council president of this school. Welcome to The Gifted Academy, where you will learn how to harness your powers. I know many of you, wants to be in this school but then, passing the entry exam will determine your stay here." He said, as his dark eyes met mine admidst the crowd.

"Any questions?" He asked.

A murmur arose from the crowd.

"That's some stupid way, of letting us stay in this school. Don't you think?" A voice protested in the crowd.

Slowly, my gaze left his, in search of the sudden protester. But I couldn't pinpoint who it was, because of my height. But definitely, it was a male judging by the voice.

But Alex was less concerned. "That way, we can filter out, those who aren't meant to be here, and won't add anything valuable to this establishment–"

But he was cut off, rudely.

"Your are being too, inconsiderate! That shouldn't be the only factor to dictate our value! and stay here!" He snapped, rudely at Alex.

As some other students who were on the same page with him, supported him.

"He's right!" One voiced out.

"Let's decided, for ourselves." Another added.

"Let's duel!" He challenged, which earned loud gasped from the crowd.

"He's a goner." I heard, Margaret say.

My eyes quickly glanced at Alex. His face remained calm, but his already dark eyes darkened and I was sure there was no white in them.

"Aargh!" There was a loud groaned from the man.

"If you're capable of duelling me. Am sure you can break free from this spell." He simply said.

But the man was not in his right state of mind to give a response.

"Stay! away from me!!" The man flunged his arm relentlessly, punching and kicking the air.

Other students gave way, with those who had supported him earlier.

"What's happening?" I asked.

"He's using a dimension manipulation spell on him. It's a world of illusion created by the user. Most especially, the Realm of Phantoms. Only a knowledgeable, magic user can break free from this spell." Margaret whispered, to my hearing.

Goosebumps formed on my skin. Why does it suddenly feel like I had gone through the same thing. Wait? Don't tell me...

The man, fall on the floor whilst punching the air, his breathing was rough. In the normal eye, he would have been considered insane— But we all knew what was happening.

Soon after, he fall flat to the ground, he was unconscious. As some unknown bodies appeared, and carried him away.

"Any opposition?" His cold voice asked, but there was none from the crowd. "Council Kathleen will take over from here." He added.

"Wow! He didn't even break a sweat!" Someone uttered.

"As you all know, am Katheleen Dupier. There are eleven rules in this school, which must be obeyed to avoid given a severe punishment. She opened a brown but long scroll, which dropped on the floor.

"1: One should not be seen outside their dorms, before it clocks midnight.

2: Aside duelling class. Students are not allowed to attack one another, be it magic or combat inside the school premise.

3: Use of forbidden magic is highly restricted.

4: Teachers are to be respected.

5: No absents from class, unless informed by the school authorities.

6: Magic seals would be taken off immediately, if there is mis-use of it.

7: Students should adhere to proper cleanliness.

8: And food will not be served once its past breakfast, lunch and dinner time.

9: No sleeping around, except willingness from both parties.

10: Anyone caught or suspected breaking the rules should be reported.

11: Anyone who cause death of fellow classmate will be punished and exiled without delay."

There was loud, gasped and whisperings which followed. The last rule made me feel insecured. . .What if the prey doesn't care about being exiled?

"That's all for now. Have a nice day." She concluded, with a stretched smile.

Once we were done in the assembly hall. The hall was starting to get empty as other students had already Starting to locate their classes.

"Cool! My first class is, Control and Magical ethics!..." She half yelled, before appearing serious. "Ahem, what's yours?" She asked, with a shade of pink on her cheeks.

Opening my bag, i brought out my schedule. As we both look through together.

MONDAY: CONTROL AND MAGICAL ETHICS, HISTORY, INFUSED MAGIC, FREE PERIOD, HEALING.

TUESDAY: HERBOLOGY, EARTH MAGIC, SWORDMANSHIP, FREE PERIOD, DUELLING.

WEDNESDAY: SPELL CASTING, PROTECTIVE MAGIC, FREE PERIOD, CONTROL AND MAGICAL ETHICS.

THURSDAY: TRANSFIGURATION, HISTORY, INFUSED MAGIC, FREE PERIOD, SWORDMANSHIP.

FRIDAY: HEALING, SPELL CASTING, PROTECTIVE MAGIC, FREE PERIOD, SPORTS AND GAMES.

"Same with mine. Uhm, what day is it?"

I asked, wondering if it was the same as earth.

"It's Monday. Let's head to class then." She replied, as we both walked out of the hall.

.

"Magic is the least thing we never expect to happen to us. But we were born with it, and so we have to embrace it." The teacher enlightened, who had introduced herself as Miss Sky.

Her slender white hair poured down her waist length. She had a slender figure, white skinned and blue eyes.

"I know some of you doesn't know what special abilities you were gifted with. So let's not delay any further." She clicked, her fingers. As a wooden table with a purple glassy orb appeared in the room.

There was loud gasped, as whisperings followed. The class was awed.

"Can anyone tell, what this is?" She asked, as some pair of hands was raised, including Margaret.

Her blue eyes scanned the room. "You there, what's your name?" She pointed.

I watched as, Margaret stood up confidently.

"My name is, Margaret Oliveira. This purple orb here, is a special object which reveals the gift that lies within us." She answered boldly, to receive a nod from Miss Sky.

"A nice one Margaret. Now lets get started with you, please come forward."

My eyes scanned the room, as my eyes met with Josh. He smiled at me and i returned it, before focusing my attention on what was going to happen.

The room was silent as a graveyard. As everyone was focused, not wanting to miss out on any details.

She stood forward, while facing the purple orb.

"Now place your palm on it, for five seconds before letting go." The woman guided.

And she did, as she was told. The orb glowed brightly, before it stopped. And the woman peered at it.

"Congratulations! You're a HEALER." She announced.

As the girl was confused. "Huh? What?" She asked, in confused state.

"Your'e a Healer. Please get back to your seat, so the next person can come forward."

Once she was back, she sat without sparing me a glance. Like she was lost in thought.

Everyone did theirs, as some were happy with what they got. Josh did his too. He had the ability to move objects, Telekinesis.

And I was the only one left.

"Are you not going to come forward for yours? Or are you already aware of your, Gift?" The teacher asked, noticing I was not bothered.

"Uhm, me?" I was startled.

"Yes, you dummy!" Someone mocked, earning a roar of laughter, from the crowd.

I rolled my eyes internally. I stood up, as I walked up to her.

"Place your palm on it." She said.

Staring at the purple orb, which was no longer emitting any light from it. I placed my palm on it. I wasn't expecting anything, considering am just a human. Slowly I retract my palm, and the orb glowed faintly.

I was shocked. Huh? Why was it glowing?

But to my dismay, it stopped!

"What? How is that, possible?" Miss Sky uttered, her eyes darting from the orb and back to me.

"Try, again." She said.

I did, and the outcome was the same as the first.

"The orb isn't showing.your Gift..." She mummered.

Just like I thought.

There was loud bickerings, among the students.

"Wow! We have a G.I.F.T.L.E.S.S in our midst!" That same annoying voice mocked.

As some of the students laughed at me.

This time, my eyes located who was deriving joy, in mocking at me. It was a male, he had a ruffled brown hair and hazel eyes. And a piercing on his nose.

Our eyes met, and he grinned at me. And for a second, I could tell, i saw his tongue slithered in and out like a snake.

And without warning, The bell rang, it was time for History class.
